Per BDJ, Darryl Norris commits to MSU baseball.

This is the biggest commitment for the 2010 class by far. He chose MSU over Alabama and is the number 1 player in the state of Alabama. He is a pitcher that touches mid 90's. Hopefully, the draft won't gt him.

No it isn't. I take this as a sign we're heading in the right direction with Cohen and staff. And I'd much rather sign guys like this that we have to worry about going in the first few rounds and signing than a bunch of scrubs that don't even worry about waiting by the phone during the draft.

the word on Barlow is that he has academic issues- which shocked me because of the school he goes to. I said something in my blog about it very briefly, and got the info from the Junction.

It sounds like what will end up happening is he will probably do like Donnie Tabb and commit to MSU/LSU and a JUCO and unlike Donnie Tabb probably go in the draft. I think it's a distinct possibility that he could also just commit to a JUCO.

I wish Cohen would go ahead and round out our class by offering Kaleb Barlow from Jackson Prep.
I've heard several mentions that Kaleb has grade issues, which is strange because he goes to prep. Hard to believe someone would fork out that kind of tuition for a HS education and allow the kid to bring home crappy grades.

Are we recruiting Donnie Tabb?</p>

how he does after JUCO. As you know, he verbally committed to us last year, and then didn't make the grades and is now at East Central Community College, I believe. If he does well in JUCO, I think we'll get him again. He has said that playing at MSU was a dream of his.

but Kaleb is a heck of an athlete. I saw him make the infamous play to beat JA in the State Championship Game in 07. I wouldn't be surprised if he was recruited. He lives in Mendenhall.

Unless things have changed, I believe Prep is on a 5 point or scale or something like that. I that's hurting Barlow a lot.

will never see him unless he just wants to go to college. That dude has some wicked stuff from the mound and I'm not even talking about his fastball and has very good bat speed at the plate.

one of the great myths in high school sports is that Prep recruits. In fact, prep lost one of its best linemen this year to Mad Cent'l. MC is becoming a problem for the local academies b/c of the exposure you get in now-6A football. See Peyton Johnson, Chaz Ramsey, and Will Martin.

Prep's grading scale is ridiculous. 95-100 is an A.

JA just recently changed their scale from the one prep uses to the one the rest of the state goes by. And yes madison central did a good job of stealing all of JA's best athletes thanks to Joey Hawkins

is the fact that he's from Mendenhall. I understand that Prep is a good school and all, but that's a long way to drive.

I hope he truly is the #1 player in Alabama but I'd like to know where that info is coming from. I see where Gene and BDJ are stating that.

but if someone lives in Madison and chooses to send their kids to JA or Prep, Im sure they have their reasons. Plenty of people do it. Some people don't like huge schools with classes near 500 and some people want their kids to have a better opportunity to play sports. To each his own.

I like all of those schools. For all the hell metro Jackson catches (vs. B'ham, Memphis, etc.), it does have a really nice variety of solid options for schooling.

Who do you think is the top player in Ala? I thought he was but I defer to your superior baseball knowledge. I do know Norris is a pretty good QB also.
