1. FSU
2. OSU
3. Auburn
4. Bama

No surprises here... so assuming FSU and OSU win their respective conference title games, this will be the first year since 2005-2006 that an SEC will not play for the national championship.

I'm at a point now that I'm more happy the BCS is on it's way out than I am bummed at the possibility of no SEC team in the BCSCG. Honestly, I don't really care that much. I've started not to care too much about conference loyalty over these past couple of years.

I have never felt vicarious love for any of our SEC brethren and have no evidence that any of them have our back. Nevertheless, I do like the money.

Just checked the BCS rankings. How in the hell does a computer that ranks FSU #4 play a role in deciding who plays for the national championship? That's 17ed up. In my ideal world, I still say we need an 8-team playoff. Champions of the 5 major conferences, the highest ranked champion of a mid-major, and 2 at large teams. Assuming the favorites win next week, we'd have:

Dec. 20-21:
#14 Northern Illinois at #1 FSU
#5 Mizzou / #8 South Carolina at #2 Ohio St.
#7 Stanford at #3 Auburn
#6 Oklahoma St. at #4 Alabama

Jan 1:
NIU/FSU vs Oklahoma St./Bama
Mizzou/USC/Ohio St. vs Stanford/Auburn

Jan. 11:
Championship Game

I hope one day it eventually goes to this because it really does more than simply decide the national champion in a more fair way, it brings the country together and breaks down conference barriers. Basketball and baseball already do this in a very fair way, I think.

I assume that Missouri would jump Alabama if they beat Auburn. So if one of the top two blow it Alabama can't sneak back into the title game.

Worst case scenario: Auburn beats Missouri, Ohio St loses to Mich St., FSU loses to Duke.
Would be an iron bowl NC game--this is my nightmare.

I would think the BCS would do everything in their power to avoid that situation... however, the Bama/LSU title game holds a strong precedent. The scenario you lay out, although unlikely, could very well happen. I just don't see Duke beating FSU. MSU beating OSU is a very real possibility, though... without Braxton Miller, OSU isn't much at all to write home about and MSU's defense is worlds better than Michigan's.

Agree with this 100%. If it isn't us winning the NCG, I don't particularly want any other SEC school winning it.

How messed up would it be if Alabama plays in the NCG over 1 loss SEC Champion Missouri if either FSU or OSU lose? People often ask why I hate the Tide so much, and crap like that is why I do.

Some things to take into account

1. Current difference between 2nd and 3rd place score is
OSU .9503
AU . 9233
Diff. .0270

2. AU will pass OSU in the computer polls. That will add an even .013(.04/3) to AU (All or nothing percentage).
.0270-.013=.014

3. 62 coaches vote in the Coaches Poll. The difference between AU and Ohio State is 37 points. 4 coaches voted Ohio State ahead of Florida State. That means that 29 coaches voted AU ahead of OSU.

4. 4 first place votes earned by OSU in the Coaches Poll. There is no argument for three of the coaches' votes (Urban Myer is the 4th). This may signal sabotage in the polls since some coaches played their hand ahead of the final poll.

5. 44 of 105 voted AU ahead of OSU in the Harris Poll (1st place votes: OSU 5, AU 3).

6. 20 vote increase in coaches poll =.013/ 20 votes in Harris poll = .008

7. So, AU can pass OSU in the BCS without passing them in the polls.

How does Bama go from 2nd in the computer polls to 4-5?

The Sagarin has gone crazy this year too:
1 Florida State
2 Northern Illinois
3 Ohio State
4 South Carolina
5 Oklahoma State
6 Auburn
7 Alabama
8 Missouri
9 Arizona State
10 Stanford

NIU. I'm all for an 8-team playoff, but I just don't think a computer formula can be designed to pick the teams

The real Sagain rankings are more reasonable:

1 Florida State A = 103.60 12 0 67.44( 66) 0 0 | 1 0 | 110.26 1 | 99.85 1 | 96.89 1
2 Alabama A = 96.72 11 1 70.89( 48) 0 0 | 2 1 | 96.67 2 | 96.55 2 | 92.60 7
3 Arizona State A = 91.81 10 2 80.22( 4) 1 1 | 5 2 | 89.57 5 | 94.51 3 | 89.93 9
4 Oregon A = 91.29 10 2 74.11( 25) 0 1 | 2 2 | 89.13 7 | 93.87 4 | 86.02 15
5 Missouri A = 90.62 11 1 72.40( 41) 0 0 | 2 1 | 92.57 3 | 88.73 11 | 92.16 8
6 Baylor A = 90.61 10 1 68.09( 62) 0 1 | 2 1 | 88.61 10 | 92.90 5 | 88.88 12
7 Ohio State A = 90.05 12 0 68.32( 61) 1 0 | 2 0 | 89.72 4 | 90.18 9 | 94.63 3
8 Stanford A = 89.84 10 2 79.23( 5) 2 0 | 5 1 | 88.69 9 | 90.93 6 | 89.05 10
9 Oklahoma State A = 89.60 10 1 71.71( 43) 1 0 | 2 0 | 88.60 11 | 90.50 8 | 92.68 5
10 Wisconsin A = 89.38 9 3 70.96( 46) 0 2 | 2 2 | 88.20 12 | 90.51 7 | 86.47 13

Auburn is #11. The BCS doesn't allow the computer rankings to take into account margin of victory.

i'm not

i'm not the least bit interested in watching ok state play again. they looked like crap that first game, we were there for that one. i definitely don't want to see NIU, that's just silly talk.... unless someone gets cute and matches them up against alabama this year just to see if 'bama gets up for a non-championship or just rolls over. so nice that they have a cheer that goes both ways. roll tide, roll.

it seems that no matter what happens between the spartans and the buckeyes this week the buckeyes are going to get a bone thrown at them. it'd be in their best interest to not choke on it this time.
