Unless someone provides proof or evidence in this thread, we should all permanently dismiss this rumor.

it is a huge turnoff to many people. Not necessarily the actual product as much as the perception many have of those who love car racing, Dale Earnhartd and country music. Kinda like Rap Music, it only appeals to a certain portion of the populace.

Having said that, I will come off my pedestal and give the athletic department kudos for thinking outside the box.

these days, I do appreciate the effort Stricklin has made in this regard. They aren't for me, but I don't think that made it a bad idea. Kudos to Scott for trying, even if we didn't cover the cost. LT would have never dreamed of such things.

All I know is we were told it would take 25,000 - 30,000 to break even and we drew 22,000. I don't know for a fact that we were lied to earlier, but I don't have any reason to believe we were.

With the guy from Bones Thugs and Harmony filling in for Eazy E. Ted Nugent on guitar, and The Dixie Chicks singing back up. GWAR opens up for them.

I've got no problem at all with the specific band they chose, even though I personally can't stand that band.</p>

I'm not paying to get into their archives to find it for you, but it was there. I assume he was given the number by Stricklin or someone in the athletic dept.

I also appreciate Stricklin awknowledging how people didn't like Sugarland or the concert in general after the concert via twitter. There are less people who listen to country music (even fewer who listen to Sugarland) than rap music or contemporary rock/folk rock/anything. Even in Mississippi, even at Mississippi State. I hope they decide to do it again next year but get a more widely popular band and work something out about people watching the game for free. There are more popular bands for less, which would eliminate the need for making EVERYONE pay.

Are probably as close as you are going to come to appeasing everyone. Obviously, that ain't happening.

Maybe someone like Aerosmith- does Stephen Tyler even tour anymore or is he sucked into American Idol forever.

I know a lot of women would like someone like Adele (good luck on that). And I like how she makes her boobs bounce when she starts to really get into it even though she is kind of a bigger girl.

popular acts out there in country music. They are a major headlining country act that also appeal a little to the pop music fan. No band out there will make an entire University's people happy, but this was the best comprimise of pretty much all out there. We weren't going to get Taylor Swift or Kenny Chesney or Keith Urban, and were going for the family oriented band, so Sugarland was the perfect fit.

and we offered John Mayer a similar amount and he declined/wasn't able to do it. After concessions and varying ticket prices, I have no idea whether we lost money or not.

We could have done much better than Sugarland..

Some bands just are too expensive or would never come, like Pearl Jam, Van Halen, U2, Bruce etc...

I doubt we could pull in either of these groups but I would make some inquires. Either of those would sell DWS out. Below that we have Eric Clapton, Santana, Joe Walsh. Any of these would probably draw a decent crowd. Heart played the HOB in N.O. back on St. Paddy's day w/e and got $70 a pop, listen to 99.9 the fox for half an hour and you'll hear one of their songs play so they're still kinda popular. What about Mississippi's own B.B. King? He puts on a damn good show and appeals to a large group.

Think outside the box. I know several folks who could care less for MSU football but bought tickets to Sugarland. I just hope Strickland and Co. continue to think aggressively so we don't relapse back to the old days of LT and the old 'we just po lil ol Missippi State and can't do that' mentality.

Don't know the final amount the check was cut for but check out the link and you will find the payment for a school run event by Richard De La Font agency who manages Sugarland, starts at $250,000.

</div><div>Not saying they were the best to have in concert but this will put to rest the "we paid them $XXX,000" debate.</div>
