Knight Shift, If we do not reup his contract and another school comes along and says we will pay you 8 mil to turn around our program, you do not think HCGS would entertain that? He wants to be paid what he is worth and if we don't pay him we risk losing the ONLY person who has been able to successfully run the program at the highest levels of competition in the history of Rutgers. He deserves a contract extension for getting them where they are and to lock him in for another five years. We need stability and a coach who can coach in the BIG, Schiano is it unless you want Ash back.
1. We have a HC signed for 4 years. Is that not enough stability? If it's not, then are you not saying HC Schiano could have gone 1-11 and needed an extension for "stability".
So take "stability" off the board.
2. If another school came and offered HC Schiano $8m, would he not give Rutgers a chance to match or exceed?
If not, then no extension amount is safe unless you propose we increase his salary to top in the Big Ten or even the country.
We could bump him to $8m next year. But then someone comes in and offers $9m and he's out the door immediately.
What level of compensation is good enough to safeguard him leaving in the middle of the night?
