I am guessing this most recent post was prompted by the story in today's Lynchburg paper about the Altavista/Central Lunenburg game. The story more of less said that the Chargers were going to try to control the clock, which is completely different that milking the clock.
And you know what? That's how Central might have a chance to win this game.
Last week against West Point, Altavista put up 49 points in the first half on 8 offensive snaps. Five offensive TDs, a pick six and a punt return for score in the first half. They scored on their first THREE SNAPS. It was 35-0 with 11:30 left in the second quarter. How do you defend a team like that, well first off you don't let them have the ball. Of those five offensive scores you had FOUR different players score, and while Thornhill had two, one was running and one was receiving (he had another throwing). Altavista's offensive was on the field maybe five minutes of game clock in the first half and they scored five times.
The way to stop that is to control the clock with long methodical drives of your own. I don't think there is a team in the state that wants to get in a shootout with Altavista. If you are going to beat the Colonels you need to keep the offense off the field. Guess what, IF Altavista wins, PM or W&L is going to try to do the same thing, as will every other team going forward.
