The only thing I can think of concerning the linup was that Pope was trying to tire Vandy out. It seemed to work as they looked gassed midway through the second but then they cuaght their second wind. That all I got. Otherwise the players played like complete crap.

He’s without a doubt better than Kal would have been had he stayed. That said, my confidence level that he ever wins a title here is only slightly above where I was with Kal.

Bad loss today, but impossible to know what Pope will ultimately do here.

I see a lot of things I like from him, so I'm hoping for the best. We'll see.
If he lets the season continue the way it is going right now he won’t get much time to prove what he will “ultimately” do. I hope he realizes that. What he is doing NOW is not going to allow him a long leash. He officially has two seasons after this one, and that is on him. Time to decide if he wants to be friends with his players or he wants to keep his job.

You do realize Coach Pope assembled a team from nothing. What he has done this year is amazing. Just wait for the years to come when he has top notch talent. But you don't care about that do you. You just want to have shock value and attention.

Love me some Pope!! Not sure why everyone has such high expectations in year 1. This is an average sec team this year. Will still be a tourney team though. A solid coach with just above average players . But that’ll change
The issues I have with Pope has=ve nothing to do with expectations, their win/loss record or whether the players are average, above that or below that. My issues are:

* lazy on defense, don't forcefully go after rebounds, they don't defend the three point shot with any urgency, the help defense under the basket is awful.
* lazy on offense. Too many guys standing around waiting for someone else to start the action, they rarely set actual screens, hardly ever see anyone running the baseline to get open, Lamont drives but rarely ever kicks it out. Amari hangs around on top dribbling like he's the only guy on the court, but he doesn't really do anything to help the offense.

Very rarely do any of the things I see have anything to do with talent. It's an effort thing, and I was CERTAIN going into the season that these guys were going to play to Pope's vision and for the name on the front of their jerseys, and we DID get this earlier in the season, but now that all seems to be going away and the season seems to be coming down to whether Pope is able to hand out popsicles to the kids at half-time or not to try and pep them up. There's a real problem here.

Its fair to criticize Pope. His terrible line ups and play calling the last 7-8 minutes of the game along with the ISO calls in a row were suspect. It got predictable.

Yes, Garrison had 4 bad turnovers, but he played overall better than Amari. He can score at least.

I feel like Pope has loyalty to Amari because he was our first commit. Unfortunately, he has been a big disappointment this year.

When we do ISO we lose. It should happen, but in frequently.

When we don't have good motion and ball movement, we lose. (Hero Ball)

Butler had terrible decisions today. Way too many.

When we have lazy big's who don't box out and get rebounds, we lose.

Pope is ahead of all of these decisions and needs to make players accountable, which constitutes in discipline of some kind.

Now with that said, I think people are upset for the following reasons.

* 5 years of **** basketball with Cal.

* We fell in love with this team at the beginning of the year

* While this team isn't athletically talented, we can compete and should win these games.

What we need to realize?

*
This is Pope's first year. If this happens after 2-3 years then its fair to say.

* Its fair to criticize Pope because the things this year have yet to be remedied.

I don’t know if he does, but I do. I’m still blaming this loss on Pope. Amari is making the same selfish mistakes as he did in game one. If that’s the goal we could have just kept the previous coach, ya know?

I'll start by saying that I love Pope and wouldn't trade him for any coach in the country. With that being said, I think he coached a horrible game today. The other losses so far this year were somewhat acceptable, but something about the one today just pisses me off!!!!

So did Kevin Ollie. Pretty much the same scenario. Inherited a contender of a team
Stop it. Pitino couldn't win with more talent in 97. Also, Tubby's resume is far, far superior than Ollie's. Got Tulsa and Georgia to the sweet 16.

Okay back to the Pope bashing thread.

True dat. If you can’t field an entire team in a few months and compete at the highest level in the SEC when it’s having a historically strong year, then you might as not play. I’ll assume you’re gonna delete your account since the Cats are a losing team under Pope?

Pitino didn't have his best player n 1997. Arizona also had a plus 24 ft attempt advantage.

Here come the trolls that have been laying in wait.

We are down 2 of our top 6

The team was put together in 3 weeks and had expectations of a 6-9 seed. Making the tournament and winning 1 game was what ppl anticipated.

This will be the least talented team he has here. Year 2-4 was always the goal post.

This year has been an overachievement to this point.

Get Carr (and hopefully Kerr) back for March and hit the trail hard for next season to find the missing pieces and right fits.
Trolls? Not that I see. What I see are fans who are rightfully upset with the lack of effort today, lack of team play, lack of coaching to address issues that are not being addressed. This team lost today not because it's missing 2 out of its top 6 players. It lost because of not being ready to play in the first half (AGAIN), and not putting forth the effort and decision-making necessary for a win. This game was very winnable. Vanderbilt likes to punch opponents in the mouth with its deep shooting and stripping away at the ball. Apparently Pope missed that.

Wait and see what happens when Cal beats this team. They will play harder than us and if we don’t make shots it could happen.
It might happen but I give zero ***** about 1 game in Feb when he cleaned out the team. I’m so thankful that dirtbag got fired here.

Okay, I want to.
Pitino lost as many as he won in year one.
Calipari won one in ten years.
Same with Hall.
Same with Smith.
Rupp averaged a title every ten years or so.
Judging a coach just over halfway through his first season is pretty odd.

What's been ingrained in Amaris head cannot be fixed by Coach Pope in a half a season. If that's your justification for abandoning Coach Pope for the future success he will have here you must be miserable?

Exactly. This is the first game where I felt coaching and lazy play lost us the game. The others? We got outplayed. We had off shooting nights. It HAPPENS and I’m okay with it. Today though? I’m frustrated. All we had to do was have players that cared and a coach that made the right calls and played the right guys. We didn’t. I won’t accept that kind of loss, ever.

The frustrating part is I truly didn’t expect we would ever have this kind of game from Pope. I thought he cares too much for it. I thought he would DEMAND better from his players. Today, he didn’t. I’m calling it as I see it.
