I sincerely hope that it works out long term for Coach Pope here at UK. He had a short start for recruiting, for sure. But, he has to show that he can put together a more cohsive defensive team. I also realize that Butler and Kerr are out and they are the point guards. But we look beyond under coached on the defensive end. Our team reminds me of those Loyola Marymount teams in the early 90s. Just running an offensive system to outscore people. That won't work in todays game. Pope has to figure the defensive side out, and pretty quickly.

I used to tell all my UL friends when they were so excited about hiring Kenny Payne that there would have be zero chance UL would have hired him if he hadn’t played there.

I agree 100% with this. He's got to change his philosophies from the BIGXII. That's not gonna work in an insanely physical league like ours.
We beat Duke, Gonzaga, U6, @TN, Florida to name a few. How many wins did Kenny Payne have?
No one can look at the big picture and properly compartmentalize things. Emotions run rampant.

Sec is strong this year. We will get more losses but also chances for more good wins.

Defense will not be figured out this year. His team is not changing and with a team that is so slow it is imosible for slow kids to stay in front of quick athletic kids. Recruiting quick athletic kids with length is the answer to have a great defense. ur plaers are what they are! SLOW

Pope didn’t have much time but he has to go after more dogs in the portal. You can’t recruit just nice polite guys. You need a few men on your team to crack some heads on defense. They are just as important as the finesse 3 point shooter.

Pope has until the end of the next season to impress me. It doesn't take 3 yesrs to "rebuild" a program now that we have the portal.

Some of you are jumping off the bridge because we are losing games with a bunch of mid major players that were brought here in about a month, and throw in the fact that we don’t have a point guard!

Spot on. If he wasn’t a super enthusiastic guy who played here and won a title here he definitely would not even have been among the top 15 candidates.
Coach needs to figure out how to win whatever the circumstances, because that’s his job. It’s been a roller coaster of a season. At this point I just hope we can get healthy and win a couple post season games this year. I’m not writing this year off completely because I think we can be a good team when at full strength, but I’m not sure we are ever going to get back to full strength this year.
My mind is moving on to what next year could look like. I like Popes system, and think if he has a normal portal recruiting season we can field a great team next year.
