Here is the quote as reported by the APP:

"“Those are decisions that I have to make,” Flood said. “Chris is our starting quarterback and we are trying to give him enough opportunities to learn through the game. If the opportunity is there to give Hayden experience, we’ll do that. We did it again this week like we did last week.”

“It’s just a matter of when you make the decision,” Flood said. “I decided I wasn’t going to make that decision until the fourth quarter and then in the fourth quarter we got Hayden in there.”

Flood flunked "Managing QBs 101" in coaching school. What a meathead!. He has "anointed" Laviano as the starter for life.

Imagine for a moment that Flood had some deep seated animosity toward Rettig ... or he had some overwhelming fixation with Laviano and was thoroughly determined to see to it that Rettig was never in a position to take over the starting position ...
How would that be different from what is going on here ?

I find it fascinating how he decides things that he sticks to no matter what is happening in the game. Did he decide he would establish the running game until the 4th quarter, no matter what the score was? Sure seemed like it. What else does he decide and force his coaches to stick to?

I just think someone close to him needs to sit him down and explain the DAMAGE he's doing to Laviano right now. Emotional scar tissue that makes it harder to bounce back. I mean, the OC was literally scared to call a passing play for lack of confidence in the QB. Laviano looks confused, frightened and completely in over his head out there. Get him OUT of there. Let him catch his breadth, get out of the frying pan and get back to who he is as a player.

He should be fired solely based on that response. That could be seriously the dumbest thing I have ever heard him say and there is a very long list of things in competition.

Football is a very fluid game there are no absolutes. Coaches need to be flexible given the circumstances. His statement goes against all rules of coaching. We have seen his unwillingness to change in various situations. The QB handling, the constant rotating of the running back, the constant commitment to the run game. He has handled all these situations in absolutes. When he clearly needs to be more flexible. QB not getting it done, change. Running back gets hot, ride him. Constantly running into a brick wall, throw deep. This is not making the proper decisions, rather playing to a script be it hell or high water. I have a seen quite a few of these puzzling statements from him recently and they're very disturbing. They paint a picture of someone who really doesn't know what they are doing.

Flood doesn't understand that putting him out there is hurting any development he might. Watching sometimes is really good.
Cali.Flood doesn't care if he destroys Laviano,so long as Rettig never gets a shot.As John O said he has job security & Russo on the way(an elite 11 qb,who he must play or lose him.)I realize this is cynical , but I have gone from full support to dispising Flood.

Guess that decision was made before the season even began!

Guys, this wasn't just about the QB. The kicking game sucked, no adjustments made against the pass rush, same 6 plays run over and over again, no pass rush. The only ones who played well were Longo and Grant. This stinks was on the whole team.

Oh, we all know this, it's just the fact that our HC - yet again - has proven to the college football loving world that he's a babbling idiot.

Flood is mentally retarded, a guy who barely has the qualities to be a high school gym teacher. This guy got lucky by being in the right place and the right time. Seriously, why would he say this publicly unless he wants to scare away recruits.

I never have heard a HC for any team saying "I don't play my best players, I play the ones I like".

The guy is grossly unqualified, and he acts like he Nick Saban. The guy would get fired in at ANY other place.

Even Carroo's injury can be attributed to Laviano. On the touchdown pass in the Indiana game, Caroo came back to the ball and got his ankle caught under the DB. Retting would have made a better throw.

Some of this learning is coming at high cost.

Laviano should have been pulled after the weekly fumbled snap. He can learn not to fumble on the bench.

Flood always spouts off about how important the ball is to the program yet he allows his QB to fumble the snap every game.

Nuts...like many I've seen enough fb to know when it's time to make a change and to not make excuses to do what needs to be done and know when the game is essentially over or a personnel needs to be made. And you don't have to look at film to decipher what we all are seeing....stubborn and plain dumb football decisions. How Hayden Rettig or 3ven any if the other QB's hsve not lost their enthusiasm or poise is beyond me. It's a shame. One has to wonder what some of the other coaches on the staff are thinking.

This is easier than we're making it.

Laviano has naked pictures of Flood.

It's the only possible explanation.

I've never been part of the "Rettig has to play" crowd, and I've been told that he has issues getting the team from huddle to snap, but dear God... Laviano has looked lost for the last two weeks and he's getting worse.

It kinda reminds me of when Schiano benched Ryan Hart for Mike Teel. I was at the Carrier Dome for Teel's first start. It turned the season around. It might have been the day that Schiano's team turned the corner, as a whole.
