I watch to be entertained for a few hours. Nothing's going to change for me if PSU goes 0-12 or they go 12-0, except that I'll probably stop watching if they get their doors blown in week in, week out. Because that's not entertaining. As is, I'm somewhat entertained most weeks. So I keep watching. I don't "demand excellence" (i.e. a Natty) because, what does that do for me? Adds 1 or 2 more weekends of cheering? OK. Not that big a deal, to the point where I'm going to stomp around and "demand" better.

Consider ... if they only played 2 "top" teams over the course of 12 weeks, and went 12-0, and curbstomped 6-8 of those teams, would that be as much fun as watching them play 12 top teams (Bama, UM, OSU, LSU, etc.), and having them be fairly competitive in each of them, but they go 6-6? I'd prefer the latter.

I'd take the latter too, but we don't get that - we get Ohio, Toledo, Western Michigan, etc. Those are and should be gimmies. New playoff will be fun just if only for the new teams to play.

A lot of fans view PSU as an elite program and are pissed we aren’t there right now. When in the past have we ever been elite for a longer run than a year or 2????? Michigan is another arrogant fan base who think they are better than they are and what they have actually done. They have 1/2 a national championship for many of our lifetimes. You know what the standard is?? Good academics, strong family atmosphere, a pride about being more than football, consistently solid seasons with a really powerful season every 4 or 5 years. That is what we are and what we have always been. We were that in 2016,2017. Here we are 5 years later and we are a top 10 team. Can we maintain this run for longer than a year or 2???? Hopefully. Think about it…

1981/1982
1985/1986
1993/1994
1999
2005
2008,2009
2016,2017
Now 2022-????

We aren’t consistently a playoff level team year after year after year. Maybe 2022 is the start of that but over our history, we have never been that. We are a good solid program that many would trade places with but we are not an elite program. We are exactly what we always have been.

You really should read up on your PSU football history. From the time period 1977 - 1987, PSU competed in 4 National Title games and was in the running for 3 additional titles. During this stretch, PSU teams finished in the top 10 AP rankings 7 times! Not to mention, JoePa won 2 National Championships during this time period.

Also, they played and beat the following power elite programs during regular season or bowl games of that time period: Nebraska, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Miami, Pittsburgh, USC, and Notre Dame.

This sounds elite to me.

Let’s settle this once and for all.

I’m fine with mediocrity for PSU Football. Excellence is hard and intimidating. I can associate with mediocrity. That’s who I am (on a good day). They also say that it’s lonely at the top. I don’t want to be alone.

What about you?
I prefer mediocre excellence. Is that a thing.

Let’s see. In reality we have elite, very good, good/average, below average/mediocre, terrible.

On here we have elite and mediocre. 🤣

Some people don’t think 10-2 with the only being to 2 of the 4 teams in the playoffs is “mediocrity”.

When all 10 wins are against 2nd tier programs or teams with losing records, by definition that is mediocrity.

Zero wins against the big boy programs.

You can’t get any more mediocre than that.

Are you talking about the "Who's the Hottest" poll? I see no reason to accept mediocrity.

Sure you can. The team could be 8-4 or 6-6 against the same schedule.

You ran a dictionary through google translate from English to gibberish to get that "definition."

Sc, I gotta tell you. My fav thing in the entire world is driving and car culture. It was the most analog, communicative joyful car I’ve ever driven. I’m def buying one.

2-10 would be dogshit, 4-8 merely horseshit
If you want a definition of mediocre, check out this year's UConn football results. Given their recent history, I imagine they're satisfied with mediocre.
