Like seeing the ride out in the 2nd period, but Davis wasn't remotely close to a takedown the entire match.
Could davis have taken top for the third , get the riding time over a minute and try for a turn or stall call if niethet happens,Than let him go with a minute and go for the take down.

I was talking to a very connected Iowa fan last night before the dual and he told me he was very worried for Angelo. He said "You have Askren on one hand and Cael on the other figuring out how to attack Angelo and take advantage of his stupid knee trick." He went on to explain that if either one figures it out they both will because they have the type of coaches that learn from all possible sources. He was not a Brands fan.
I think he gets gas getting up off the one knee , I bet that takes it out of you. So wrestle him for the tie breaker.

The Iowa mystique has been on life support; the ivs were removed last night. I can't imagine an elite HS wrestler watching that and thinking 'thats were I want to wrestle'.
.
Watching their talented recruits regress over the years, adopt passive wrestling styles or simply break down physically due to the Brands' misguided, antiquated training regimens, there's absolutely zero reason for a young stud wrestler to think this is the best place for me to go to attain my lofty goals. Throw in the pitiful state of the HWC and that seals the deal.

Rocco really worked his head while he was down there. I think Rocco tired him out with that plus like you said being down there and popping up then back down is adding to the problem. He will remain a very tough out unless the knee drop is called stalling. The dean Heil rule made it so Dean couldn't lay on his back and prevent takedowns. It worked. The Ford Focus rule could end knee wrestling and improve the sport as well.

Probably going to be unpopular opinion, but felt Davis in 3rd period was just trying to get another stall call on Bailey. It was really just a bunch of faux 1/2 shots, never seemed to be really committed to any of them. Like others have said, think he’ll be fine as conditioning improves and will avenge this loss.
I can’t say enough about how hard Davis worked to get out of that cradle. I don’t think it gets enough attention. I mean it was locked up tight! The optics’s of a PSU wrestler on his back flopping like a fish came pretty close to reality. Instead they only picked up a one point decision which with Davis’s second period domination and both wrestlers gassed in the third period left a ho hum win. If Davis had anything left in the tank we walk out of there going ten for ten. Oh so close!

I’ve been saying here that going to a knee in neutral for longer than reaction time while not engaged or tied up should be an automatic stalling call. This typically elicits the moron response “but what about Robles?!?”, so also with the condition that you have two legs to stand on.

Brands addressed it in his post match PC in a way only he could. He was talking the whole time about needing to be more aggressive to beat Penn State, so someone asked him about Angelo kneeling and basically doing nothing, and he said kneeling is Angelo’s style but he’d like Angelo to be stalking and initiating from one knee if he wants to kneel. LMAO. I’d love to see him trying to pursue someone while kneeling.
There isn't much that is aggressive about Iowa's style. They don't even hand fight and push anymore. Now they grab fingers and hang on, attempting to keep the other guy from getting offensive. Even Ayala, a two time NCAA finalist, made just one attempt at scoring a takedown and his attempt was dependent upon Blaze being too aggressive moving forward. Ferrari has no offense if the other wrestler doesn't step into Ferrari's kneeling retreat. Block got a TD on Van Ness by taking a legitimate and aggressive shot, but it was still from Van Ness stalking Block and moving forward.

Per Cael, Iowa shows us what we need to work on. Today's version of Iowa shows us how to overcome 7 minutes of a concerted effort to slow us down (grabbing fingers) and stall.

I suspect he blew a gasket with that ride in the second period.
Also, fighting out of that cradle had to have taken a lot out of him. It also pushed Iowa's riding time over a minute, which was crucial because Braeden's rideout in the second period still didn't give him a minute of riding time advantage going into the third. Had the match been tied going into the third it would have been anyone's match since both of them were very tired.

What do you think is wrong with Keuter? If I’m looking at it from Iowa’s perspective that is the most head scratching match to me. I don’t think he tried to score once aside from the obligatory flailing around the last 10-15 seconds of the match. It was like he didn’t try to or want to win. The guy is a very good athlete. He had a big length/reach advantage. It sounds like he has been really counter reliant for his offense this year but… I guess I just thought he would be better at this point.
Surgery. Takes a while.

ok, a Ferrari strategy question that will definitely show the casual in me ...
when he is on his right knee, the left extended leg just looks so ripe for a single leg shot to me ....
non-casuals, tell me what I am missing
It does look like his left leg is wide open but you have to beat his head/hands to actually get there. That’s why it’s an effective strategy. In most baseline defense you have to drop your level to defend a shot with your head/hands but he’s already super low being on his knee. To really attack that leg you need to hit a drag or something similar with his left arm to clear his defense on that side. Seems easy but clearly it’s not. Also, his leg is so far back. You need to really penetrate to reach it and can’t go straight on. It’s seems like a sweep single should work but I don’t think you can penetrate as far as you need doing that. It’s a super tough position to beat which is why he constantly uses it. It’s just boring as **** though and hard for him to generate offense from as well

Maybe ... but where else is he gonna go? The better coaches all don't need and/or don't want him.

If the answer is: with Albert in Lincoln, their patience is getting tested with 1 Ferrari. Would they really bring in another?
I expected him to transfer when the basset clan decommited. The room is going to unravel soon. No leadership.

Cole just needs to keep gaining good weight. Love to see him around 240 for the NCAA tournament. Put him on the Anthony C Diet and weight lifting program. Tons of Cal taken in Daily. Hey it worked wonders for Anthony C. Will see
Anthony C was quicker which made a big difference in his transition to HWT. He had a quick blast double against bigger guys

I really enjoyed the dual. I was there very early and visited with a few PSU old timers about an hour and a half before it started. One guy was a lawyer who is involved in Titan Mercury. I can't for the life of me recall his name. It was very odd to see how empty the arena was with so many seats open. The 184 match ended and a mass exodus ensued and it really became a ghost town of sorts. There was a nice couple from Conn. who had twin boys and they were from the same community Will Henckel comes from. They said Will comes and works with these boys on wrestling whenever he can. The boys were decked out head to toe with one in PSU gear and one in Iowa gear. Cute as bugs and probably 7-8 years old. I visited with Shane Sparks for quite awhile and he is such an amazing guy imo. He has nothing but an incredible admiration for the entire PSU program. I wore PSU gear and was treated very well by pretty much everyone. Great night. Sorry for the rambling.
Last year I went to the Iowa match. My family went to Pickles and a large gathering of Iowa fans were in the establishment. They were very tolerable, actually complimentary of the PSU program. Numerous knowledgeable fans spoke of the same issue, Iowa wrestlers do not have enough offense.

It was pretty funny at last night's Nebraska/Minnesota dual to see Snyder and Dlagnev have to go over and force AJ to knock off his "splits" show and join the handshake line. Dlagnev actually grabbed AJ and had some words with him. He definitely wasn't happy with his antics, including a throat slash gesture, which I believe also cost Nebraska a team point.

I think Rocco wrestled that match absolutely perfectly. When Ferrari starts doing the one knee stall, it usually frustrates his opponents and they end up taking a careless shot, exactly what Ferrari wants. Rocco didn't fall for that trap. Let Ferrari kneel all day long if he wants. Draw attention to it. Eventually the ref is going to have to call someone for stalling, and it'll be no question who that person is. And this ref waited a really long time in my opinion. Most of them will hit him a second time before it even gets to OT.
I think refs will call the kneeling tighter in B1G and NCAAs. Plus, now that Rocco knows Ferrari is never taking a shot, he can start to throw those head snaps even harder. By the end of the next one, Ferrari's head should be bouncing off the mat.

Penn st brought 19 wrestlers on this 2 match road trip i wonder if we see some young bloods vs northwestern, Sealey, Henkle, and Cunningham and maybe Desmond if he eligible at 133.
The answer is an emphatic no. Unless someone is dinged up.
Cael starts his starters. The exception to that is if someone is a little dinged up, if someone has an ugly cut (Brooks) or if the starter is not obvious.
I do expect a conditioning practice today and a few guys looking sluggish tomorrow.

What was the noise making at CHA during the 285 match? Was it a bunch of locals cheering on Kueter?
