Has 2 teams from the same conference ever played for a State Title(not WNCHSAA). The possibility exists this year but not in 2A.

Yes actually it has happened.

Back in 1967 when the state did East and West champions North Surry and Elkin played for the 3A West title. We were both in the Northwest 3A (in it's first year.)

Yes. 2008. 4A and 4AA. All four teams.
71st beat Byrd.
Richmond beat Britt.

Before subdividing do not think it was possible as conferences were either east or west during an alignment.

Would Crest and Shelby count? They were in the same conference in 2014 and 2015 Shelby won 2A and crest won 3A both years.

If I'm not mistaken Reidsville and Cummings won in 2a and 2aa in 2002

Played against each other and played in different title games in the same year are two different things. The question meant two teams from the same conference playing AGAINST each other in a championship game.

On another note I think this used to happen in SC every so often.

In 1969, Mt. Airy defeated Reidsville in the regular season fourth game 14-0, but Reidsville came back and ended Mt. Airy's long winning streak (undefeated in 1968 and so far in 1969), in a stunning 35-12 upset.

Both teams were members of 3-A, Western District 5 Conference with Eastern Randolph, High Point Andrews, Madison-Mayodan, Eden Morehead and Mount Tabor.

Did Buster Cox play in those teams? He played at Duke.

Yes Buster was the star at Mt. Airy in those days -- I believe he was a running back instead of wide receiver ... Buster's son, Joe Cox, was the QB at Georgia from 2005 to 2009..
Joe later was on the staff at Mallard Creek in Charlotte . He currently is on Mike Bobo's staff at Colorado State.

More on Joe Cox here:

Ram BBQ and myself, with huge help from Tim Bates, recreated the 1969 Reidsville-Mount Airy championship game using old reel-to-reel video. I need to watch that again. Hey Ram BBQ, lets watch it before the Graham game.

It was possible it could have happened with reidsville and cummings. As Reidsvile could go west and cummings east. Also Western alamance

Murphy and Swain did this in 2011 and 2012. Kind of neat to be at the final game of the year, two teams battling it out for the conference championship, and the PA announcer says "hey, by the way, kind of neat that you are watching two defending state champions on the field tonight."

2003 South Point beat Crest 35-7 in the regular season. South Point went on to win the 3A state championship while Crest went on to win the 3AA state championship.
