It seemed as though whenever Nick shot and got hold of a lower leg, the ref began the 5 count for stalling. Is that what is normally done? It seems ridiculous to begin the count that quickly when the other wrestler is using his hands and other leg to try to get loose and make it difficult for the shooter to move up the leg to the body.

It is not when he shoots for a take down that they start the count. It is when a wrestler already has control and either holds an ankle , drops down an holds a leg or legs, they will start a count. Actually a good rule.

Thanks. That's what I thought the rule was, and I agreed with the countdowns that occurred in Nick's bout, except for the last one where he got called for stalling. It seemed as though the count started as soon as he got the leg.
I also couldn't understand why the other guy didn't get a warning in the 3rd period. Other than a half attempt at the beginning of the period, he didn't do or try anything.
