question regarding Cohen

First off, I believe Cohen has done a pretty good job the last two years. But my problem is the lack of depth we have. Yes we do have some injuries but even before the injuries we had depth issues. No offense to guys like Frost, Britton, Fullerton, Ammirati, and Jones but they are not SEC caliber players. Florida and South Carolina would not even let these kids even try out to walk on. And yes i know they hustle and fit Cohen's style but they are simply not SEC caliber. Cohen needs to stop creating his own "style" and go with what is working for a lot of other teams. Guys who can hit for power and can play small ball. Yes, Texas wins playing small ball but they have guys with 10+ Home Runs too. Part of being a head coach is creating depth and I know we are young but in year 4 why are we young? The pitching has greatly improved but after this year we will lose Routt, Reed, and probably Stratton and who knows when Bracewell can pitch again (back at square 1). And i do not know why he gives Woodruff, Gaines, Girodo and etc. chances over Pollorena. Yes he got shelled a couple of times last year but it was against Florida who did that to everybody. He pitched like 14 straight scoreless innings against a ranked Southern team. So the potential and experience is there. That is all.

Maybe by the end of the year he'll look like he knows WTF he's doing like he did at the end of last year. Can't believe we're in year 4 and still so obviously less talented.

if CT, Norris, Stark, and Brownlee were healthy, we wouldn't/shouldn't see Jones, Britton, or Fullerton. Now if some of those guys are the future, we may be in trouble. As for Ammirati, he is the back up catcher and he was actually drafted.

..Texas has nine losses same as MSU.

I don't think Texas is the best example of what you are talking about.

I do agree about Pollorena.

Cohen is sticking Pollorena in the outfield in late innings (I get it: Pollorena has the arm to make the long throws to the plate).

But Pollorena's duty should be stictly with the pitching corps.

Stop running Pollorena out to left field.

I was referring to Texas being a successful programplaying small ball. They are a top 5 baseball program. Was not referring to just this years team

ok, so another angle. Baseball is the MOST cutthroat sport in college athletics, what I mean by that is that routinely players that come in don't make it more than year or so. With only 11.3 scholarships for 25 man traveling roster, there is a cutting point in fall ball. In fact, many players that sign with state, don't even make it to Spring ball.

Understanding that, lets look at recruiting, 3 years ago the class was ranked 18th, 2 years ago was ranked 8th and this past year 4th. So the talent is getting much better fast, with this however comes youth and inexperiance. Many players have been cut from the first few classes. Lets face it, being the best kid in your district, very, very rarely prepares you for SEC play in any sport!!! So, were using a skeleton crew right now of kids that are a full year away from being SEC calibur.

In baseball the record really doesn't matter. Just get to Hoover. If we can get there then we will be in a regional and who knows what happens then. Lets also understand we're one or 2 hits away from winning the last 2 series. Those hits very probably would have come from one of the 4 guys currently not available over the 4 games in question. Also, the addition of Bracewell and Brownlee to the pitching rotation could have also made a 1 run difference. This team is close even though they are only half strength. Lets see how the next month goes.

Finally, by SBW, we will have played the top tier SEC teams at only half strength. lets just get through it and see how we finish!

It's because of our lack of outfielders- losing Stark, CT (although he is back now), and Brownlee limits us- and then losing Norris because that means Demarcus has to play some infield from time to time and that further thins out the outfield. Those injuries have depleted our bench- and that hurts us in an extra inning game.

As of now, we have Demarcus, Hunter Renfroe, Brandon Woodruff, and Tyler Fullerton as outfielders with CT still on the mend. So, before this weekend, we were down to four outfielders- and one is a guy that is also a pitcher. We could maybe put someone like Brayden Jones out there at a corner outfield spot, but that's stretching it. I think putting Pollorena in as an outfielder is stretching it, but at least he has played outfield in JUCO.

I'd like to see Pollorena pitch more though- he hasn't been lights out like he was at times last year, but 4.26 is not horrible either.

He was a very good pitcher for us last year and has only thrown for 6.1 innings this season. Do we really have 11 pitchers better than him?
