From Deondre Skinner (a TE from LA): He said Knox told him MSU was using less of the fullback next year and going with more two tight-end looks.

serious question - do we have enough tight ends for that. We really need a few blocking tight ends. Maybe we'll move a tackle there or something, but right now other than Malcolmn Johnson and Brandon Hill, who do we have?

We brought a tight end in in our last recruiting class that looks the part. I met him one night with Jiles and the staff has really bulked him up. I can't remember his name right now. Gus something. And we also plan on resigning Samuel.

I've made this point before. Jimmy Graham is the biggest beast at that position but couldn't block to save his life, yet in their system he does it effectively by keeping defenses guessing if he's going to shed the block or just become an additional body plugging up the pass rush.

Johnson or Hill could easily be better blockers than Graham. I just hope we have that look more than a crappy, dumbed down version of Stanford's offense.

Off note though, fullback? We never use a fullback. This and 2009 are the only times I've ever seen Mullen use a FB, and 2012 it was done sparatically. Sounds like we're just playing the recruiting card.

I know Mullen has been talking with the Patriots staff over the last couple of years about two tight end packages and the thought process behind them. Thought we would have seen more of it this season, but we didn't. Maybe a healthy Malcolm Johnson from the beginning of the year would have brought that in.

This would be awesome. The 3-4 is getting more and more popular in college football. The Patriots play 3-4 defenses all the time. They have had great success using multiple tight end sets. I'd love to see us do something similar, especially next year. Russell thrives on those 15 yards and in routes. He's very accurate. He isn't afraid to throw it in a tight window and having a big strong tight ends to go get the ball would only help that part of the offense.

Seriously, though, in Mullen's offense is there really that much difference between a fullback and tightend. From what I can see, the primary difference is that the tightend SOMETIMES lines up on the line of scrimmage. More often than not, there is a player lined up outside the tackle but in the backfield, and the only way I can tell whether its a TE of FB is by the designation on the roster.

I always thought the advantage of two TE's was towards the running game .... so does this concept boost the running or passing game ? being a lonely left offensive tackle I need an experts interpretation ... would this better protect Russell maybe ?
