Yep, it's the best. No clue why it's so under-utilized, and relegated to a few producers from a specific time period. That sound is what made me fall in love with Rap.

There are a few random songs over the years that used it, one from your boy 50. :fire:

*THE ORIGINAL**

everybody has used this. I think Ice Cube's was the biggest hit in my musical lifetime.

Funk hipsters love LARB. Nice band but nothing groundbreaking IMO. "Show Me What You Got" by Jay off of Kingdom Come (poop) is another one that samples that track. Good beat from Blaze on a ****** record IMO.

I'll take The Meters all day...

I can talk sampling all day. Love watching all the crate digging stuff online.

One of my favorite (and most blatant) samples:

...and here's one for Mash:

Love when Whoo Kid or whoever will do a mix of original songs that turn into the hip hop sampled versions.

This Winans song is dope and 40 used it for the title track on Views.

I could live off of Heatmakerz / old Kanye - esque production sampling soulful tracks like this. Wish there was more of it out there.

It's definitely why I love "From Me to U" so much....that and the fact that the record dropped just as I was arriving in Lex. It was locked in my rotation until I graduated.

That Views track GOES, too. Not sure how anyone can deny that 40 makes really good music. A shame more people don't understand the formula, so many good rappers (and their producers) are clueless when it comes to making actual songs that sound good.

-Heatmakerz were really flexin there for awhile -- and yes, Kanye started sucking as soon as he went away from the Soulful sample-driven sound and started his awful "G.O.O.D. MUSIC" sound. He'll tease us here and there, but it's really a shame overall.

E-40 needs to get back w/ Mike Mosely and Sam Bostic -- I miss that old Mobb Music.

Guess he's too busy putting out 12 triple albums per year, lol. Man, he was so dope back in the early days -- still respect the hustle, but most of his newer stuff is pretty bad.

Looks like Curren$y is trying to be him, he's put out 7 projects this year, all nap worthy. He's cool, but tbh Dude puts me to sleep the majority of the time.

Hmm...it's got his classic sound. I like it.

DMX had an hour long appearance on The Breakfast Club where he addressed everything that has been on everyone’s mind. From his issues with substance abuse, depression, highs, lows and his recent brush with death. In the process, he also spoke about his brand new comeback single “Blood Red.” The track will presumably appear on his forthcoming album that is slated for release later this year and features heavy production from Swizz Beatz and other top producers. Listen below.

Idk that beat is generically wack af.

I feel for the dog, and what he did in rap was historical, but idk if he can give us another album.

Been gone for a week, and now you guys are talking sampling. Color me impressed. Here's a little sample trivia: Fear of a Black Planet would cost PE approximately 2 mil in sampling fees/royalties alone if it was produced in 2016. But damn...the Bomb Squad were sampling geniuses tho!

Here's an example of incorporating the sample AND the original artist in a track. Erick Sermon feat. Marvin Gaye. Music. Sample: I've Got My Music by Marvin.

Damn. Has that been done before? The original artist on the sampled track...

They say Ol Eric Green Eyes Sermon was the Dre of the East.

I found a great website and app last night - whosampled.com

Though they didn't know about that Three Six sample Argubs posted.

DJ Raze has a lot more time on his hands than I do. Big ups to him, he put together all the samples Dre used on The Chronic on one video. I knew all of them EXCEPT 'Impeach The President" by The Honey Drippers.

Yeah, I'm an old head...and a Funkateer!

Good article, don't disagree with any of it. I also thought American Gangster was dope..several bangers on there.

Caught snippets of most songs from Q's listening party last night on Snapchat/IG/Twitter. Sounds like it's going to be really good...even a few West Coasty/GFunky songs :)smiley:), including one w/ DPG.

You can't deny this.

I did not attend schoolboys internet listening party, but I look forward to hearing the good songs. So far the singles haven't really struck a chord with me....because I'm old. Auctioneer rap tickles my fancy now.

Yup. Sounding like it's gonna be a bit of a throwback, in terms of style -- let's hope so.

Wellllll, don't go listen to the preview tracks on iTunes. I'm sure there's plenty of west coast greatness, but it's clear he's trying to attract the euro-trash new age hipster F's.

Eh, damnit.

At least I'll have YG & a few tracks off this new Q.

If you don't get hype to "Don't Come to LA", I have no hope for you. **** brazy bruh.

You're right about YG. Probably is the hottest and most current west coaster. I think he gave the people want they wanted, though I'm no expert.

Idk, the 4-5 iTunes singles on Coolaid are whack. There are like 17 tracks tho so surely most of the rest is for the homies....which the features kind of make it sound like.

I bet the 2nd track with Too Short is bananas.

God bless short dog.

I was gonna link a too short song but this popped up on the search and more people need to hear this. Great interview.

He's acting *really* weird...meant to ask you about that.

He's fine, but never got the fascination from you & others -- as if he's somehow above the other 1000 rappers of the same ilk -- he's not, really. You love him, and hate Jeezy (b/c Gibbs told you to)...but that's hilarious to me. Jeezy, Gucci, Chainz, Future......and onandonandonandon.

They're all fine with me. Volume rappers, and I respect the hustle and can always find a few bangers here and there -- but none are superior to the other, or superior at all.

That's a good way to put it. His core fanbase craves the old West Coast Gangsta Rap...and the beats/sound that go along with it. You say gangsta rap is dead, and it's close, but he's authentic...and people see it.

Nothing will ever go back to the way it was w/ regards to WC rap, but he does a pretty good job with it, and isn't trying to be anything that he isn't or break some new boundary -- he stays in his lane, and one of the few that does, which is good enough for me.

I mean, HOW GD HARD IS IT TO USE FART BASS AND SIRENS WHILE GANG RAPPING? WHY DOES NOBODY ELSE WANT TO DO THIS ANYMORE?:grimace::mad:

God bless Terrace Martin, btw -- wondering if/when he'll ever get his due outside of that little circle. He's dope AF. Snoopy knows.

tbh I don't really care about 'gangsta' on the surface, never have. But the feel/authenticity that comes through in the music is undeniable. Weird for a normal white man, but it's true. So, maybe I do care subconsciously, idk?

I'm a beats guy above all, and The whole 'sound' is most important to me, but I suppose every ingredient counts -- I mean, Tyga has good beats too...but it just doesn't work. He's a fraud & a clown. You have to be authentic and able to be taken seriously.

If you *really* think about it, success in hip hop is a very complex and difficult thing to accomplish, overall.
