I was looking thru the drafts of the current realignment and Thru the first two drafts the Bulldogs were in the conference with Andrews, Wheatmore, Randleman etc. but in the 3rd draft they are moved into their current league. Based in the sizes of the conferences I'm guessing there is more here than meets the eye. Can someone enlighten me?

Yes. There is more to it. Thomasville wanted into the CCC. From what I was told, the athletic directors from the other schools (at least the Davidson County based schools) went to bat to include Thomasville. My opinion? I think it would have been better for all concerned to have had Thomasville in the other conference. This 10 team conference limits non conference opponents in almost every sport.

Personally I like that Tville is here. One more non conference game wouldn't make that much difference, you still have a large conference regardless. If anything, they should have split the conference into divisions and had maybe 5 or six conference games. But this is high school so that probably wasn't given consideration lol.

Rowan County schools could have went with Cabarrus and then could have had 4 non-conference games

South Rowan was the one I didn't understand. Salisbury has been in the CCC for a while, and Thomasville was a CCC powerhouse. South Rowan was the anomaly.

Thomasville requested the change for a myriad of reasons and the other schools agreed. There were no traditional rivals in the other conference. It would have killed Thomasville at the gate, with increased travel expense as well. Almost all schools in the CCC will benefit with the proximity of the schools. It also helps to have coaches and ADs who know each other and are willing to work collaboratively for the benefit of all.

If S.R. is not in the ccc which conference would they be in. The next closes conference is in union county. That is a lot of traveling to union county from S.R..

And Wheatmore as well?

ATMS feeds both Trinity and Wheat. All are located just as close to Thomasville. Heard last year they were coming to PAC7. Then suddenly switched to JM. That was OK personally. 15 minute trip is better than an hour.

They are new to 2A. When these schools were 3A they were foes at one time in the SPC.

There is nowhere else to really send South Rowan. Mount Pleasant is the next closest 2A school and they play with West Stanly, East Montgomery, CATA, Forest Hills, and Anson. Four of the six would be right at 50 plus miles. West would be over 30 miles and Mount not quite 20.

I agree with everything you said except the travel expense. Less miles in total to the schools in the other conference.

That brings another question to mind. Are 2A/3A split conferences now a No/No? There were some formerly but none now.

Haven't added up the miles, 77. But I can be at any school in the CCC in 15 minutes or less, except Salisbury and South Rowan. Guess it depends on how many times you circle those roundabouts in Randleman:).

It is the EXCEPT part of that statement that makes the difference. Also if you live in T-Ville and make it to West Davidson in 15 minutes you are moving on pretty well LOL.

The goal is to not have split conferences if at all logistically and geographically possibly.

Agreed but where are Providence Grove and Jordan-Matthews going?

Thomasville should have went into that other league. Those schools with exception of HP Andrews and Wheatmore are much closer to Thomasville in ADM and the secondary sports would be much better as far as competing goes. Playing 18 conference games in the CCC in softball, baseball, tennis, volleyball, etc Is bad news for the kids at Thomasville and Lexington. Best thing that can happen to Thomasville is for them to drop back to 1A next time.

Thomasville was at 649 end of 2016-17 school year and stayed in 2a. May be around 680 at most right now. Should have asked to drop down to 1A.

You’re absolutely right. West Davidson is 22 minutes, which ironically is the same amount of time from my house to Simeon Stadium. Wheatmore and Trinity are closer. But Providence Grove, Eastern Randolph, Randleman and JM are significantly farther, timewise.
The bigger issue is the history Thomasville has with the CCC schools, even ND and South Rowan. There is very little with any of the schools in the other conference. Regardless, we’re there for four years. Then likely back to 1-A.
