Not sure where I got the idea you were comparing their win totals...

"Nice post. Don't understand the Tyler obsession around here as if he's a top tier QB, he didn't even match Ralph's win total in 2010." - SwingAway, earlier in this thread

So...

...Aaron Murray is better than Tyler Russell you say? Well that's a simple fix. We'll just start him instead. Oh wait. He doesn't play for us, you say? So what does it matter if he or anyone else in the "40%" are better than Russell? That's right, it doesn't matter one 17ing bit. Tyler is the best QB that wears a State uniform. What other QBs on other teams, against other opponents did is really beside the point. It has ZERO bearing on what we do. Congrats on adding nothing to the conversation.

I can fix this WHOLE argument easily...

Get rid of Koenning.

Bring in Kenny Edenfield @ Troy -- who has had top 15 pass offenses nationally all 3 years there in a hurry-up SPREAD with a statue for a QB. Sound familiar? Same as Sumlin/Kingsbury previously at Houston with Keenum...

In doing this, NO ONE will argue with Tyler being the better option -- and/or we can pick our poison. This gives us diversity in the spread, with 2 different backgrounds and expertise to fit BOTH of our QBs.

Simple problem. Simpler solution. No one is arguing that Tyler is the better current QB -- people are arguing that he doesn't fit in our current scheme as well -- leaving us as a less-successful team overall. While this can't be "proven", it is certainly worth arguing given the data on hand...

Tyler is the best QB that wears a State uniform in a pro style offense.

Last I checked we don't nor will we run a pro style offense. We all know what our team's identity is; we got away from that last season and looked confused, slow, unnatural, and when we played teams that gave 2 ***** terrible. It was a good experiment for Dan to have a pocket passer and find out that **** just won't fly. So now it's time to move into the Dak era and have the best backup QB in the league should something happen.

Tyler is the best passing QB we have currently
Prescott is the best running QB we have currently

What should decide who plays QB is what you have in the skill positions and what would work best for your offense to be successful

Our offense has been in the 70's three out of Les's four years

While that's not Croom bad, it's still bad. One of those years was with Relf who "fits" our system too.

We were 11th in the SEC in third down conversions and 9th in the SEC in scoring offense. MSU was 10th in rushing offense in the league and 7th in passing.

Neither Les nor Chris should have come back.

Tyler is the best QB we have, period. Get over it. This isn't even a debate.

If Saban or Miles were running our O yes. We have Mullen though. He specializes in the spread option. So does Dak. Perfect match. Mullen has made changes with the staff do hopefully he sees the truth that an offensive overhaul is needed to be competitive in games outside of the Swac sunbelt and deadbeat teams with lame duck coaches.

Then you're stuck with a passing OC and a bunch of dual threat QBs after Russell graduates. The best solution is to squash the experiment of Russell running a "hybrid" offense, and get back to doing what we do best...Running the football with a Spread Option attack. If we're going to quit running the offense Mullen helped perfect, then we might as well change Mullen too!

Everybody is so damn worried about HAVING to start Russell as a Senior, when the obvious solution is to start Dak and pick up where we're most comfortable and successful as an offense. I truly don't understand what's so difficult about this.

Most of this post wasn't directed towards you Engie. Your idea is far better than Cookie's idea of just keeping things the same as they were this year.

SwingAway is 100% right in his posts above.

First of all to me Les is actually a good qb coach and DOES deserve credit for the development of the qb. But not necessarily THIS qb as he hasn't developed or has regressed. The qb I am referring to is Relf and now even Dak. That shows me our qbs are actually being coached properly. So at some point (as I've said before) there is a breakdown in communication. Tyler is reverting back to some bad tendancies he had as a freshman.

Staying somewhat on the subject I have a question for all of you.
Who learned more SO far (as far as what we have seen on the field) Tyler in 4yrs or Relf in 2. I would think based on my observation that Relf learned more in 2 yrs than Tyler has in 4. Relf's throwing mechanics got slightly better his accuracy on bootlegs/roll outs improved tremendously. Tyler just hasn't gotten BETTER or hasn't turned the corner Relf did and actually Dak looks to be doing. Couple that with the fact (as Cadaver has pointed out before) we have no returning starters at a position Tyler needs but that Dak doesn't necessarily need as much. We've got some serious issues and any dummy thinking Tyler will be "better" or even the same with NO RETURNING WRs COMING BACK is insane.

Spot on, Engie. Why is this so hard to grasp?

One thing that bothers me that both Relf did and Russell does is stand absolutely flat footed in the pocket. Don't know if that's being coached or not but they both stand like statues in there. Granted Russell has better pocket presence than Relf did but neither move away from pressure very well.

I agree, it's awful. While they look comfortable, they are nowhere near ready to make someone miss or scramble. Tyler NEVER rolled out to avoid a rush, he just stood there and got the **** knocked out of him. We don't know if it's taught...but we damn sure know it's never corrected by our coaches. And that is concerning.
