Record Freshman Enrollment...

Dr. Keenum claims record freshman class enrollment. Meanwhile, TSUN went from 7K freshmen in 2024 to 5500 this fall (according to recently enrolled freshmen attending today's convocation). This is the definition of elasticity. Enrollment numbers bounce all over the place in Oxford rather than gradually advancing like in StarkVegas. Tortoise v. the Hare.

I hope many who were on suicide watch a year ago over the End of Times because of Ole Miss's crazy big 2024 freshman class have received treatment for their mental health problems. And Kiffin is a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde Head Coach.

No we still lag behind. Thats 6000 transfers and freshmen. It’s carefully worded
We are going to announce a record enrollment and a record freshman class. The numbers are usually released in November. And that is with a football program having one of its worst seasons ever. Our endowment is now over a billion. Despite what detractors say MSU as a university is doing well.

I hope nobody actually suffers from that mentality, I can't imagine letting anything the Univ of Northern MS does dictate my life

record enrollment isn't necessarily a good thing. We've lowered our standards, and we don't have the infrastructure to support the influx. We need to be more strategic about these things, and strategic isn't a word I would use to describe Keenum.

We know who we are. We are a budget SEC school that has a few nice majors. May as well make peace with that.

Yep. Exactly. Never claimed Harvard of the South or anything. I’m happy with progress and there’s a lot to be happy about. If some need to be self loathing, that’s on them.

Let's just go ahead and say enrollment numbers announced are manipulated by all schools. Nobody really knows the real numbers. Keenum will get to go have a spa day for his Botox and rejuvenation because of Sid's article.

I've said this for several years now but I swear it feels like half of Memphis goes to State now. We personally know well over a dozen families with kids at State right now and none of them had any connection to Miss. State whatsoever. In fact we are bringing a family to the game this weekend because their daughter is seriously interested in State. The parents both graduated from schools in the Northeast and neither of them have ever been to Starkville in their lives.

I don't think they lied. The 21,586 total undergraduates matches their common data set. I believe the IHL presentation indicates the students' classification, not their entry term. The calendar doesn't classify you as a sophomore, junior, or senior. It's the number of hours you've earned. Some students don't earn enough credit hours in the first year to be classified as sophomores. So the 7,000+ freshmen on the presentation (I believe) includes both the 5,972 first time freshmen and ~1,100 from the previous class who are still enrolled but who are not yet classified as sophomore by hours.

Nothing wrong with that. While I would love to have a viable in-state city for graduates, that doesn't appear to be happening so having them come in from Memphis and even move back to Memphis.....at least that keeps them close enough to come back to campus and stay engaged. Same with Birmingham and Huntsville.

Those should be our 3 out-of-state focus cities/sphere along with Jackson.

Memphis being 6 hours from Knoxville helps State and Ole Miss recruit from there. Ive said for years we need to extend in state tuition to the Memphis area. Arkansas has done it for those with a 24+ ACT.

This is correct. There are lots of kids who don't get the requisite number of hours to become sophomores, and that applies to everyone.

When's this so-called enrollment cliff gonna hit
We are in the enrollment cliff already, but Mississippi universities aren't experiencing it because of the incredible value they offer for out of state students.

The number of out of state students has markedly increased at both MSU and OM because of this, and it's really the only way that they can stay viable since the state pays such a small amount of each respective operating budget. Both administrations would tell you that they rely on the OOS tuition.

People from TX, GA, CO, etc. who have been paying $40k-$50k/yr. for private school have no problem paying OOS tuition for Mississippi universities.

It's 100% positive when you have an infrastructure to support it. We do not, and questionable decisions from Lee Hall have compounded and made campus and Starkville an absolute pain in the arse to get around.

Starkville is overcrowded. If you want to accept more and more people, then be my guest. But you need to have the necessary infrastructure in place both on and off campus to support an increasing enrollment. Campus especially is a claustrophobic mess.

Let's get a show of hands here --- was the PBK inclusion a few years ago a good thing? I think it was but I may be in the minority here.
