If he could add good weight did it would have been done by now.
I don't agree. He is or was a linebacker in football so 235 maybe 240 is as big as they would want him. 260 would be a great weight for a 6'3 heavyweight. He will add pounds every year in my opinion.
Weird question about their character. Haven't seen you ask that about other recruits.

Interesting.

I’m forgetting his name, but our star linebacker 2 years ago who was a 1 st round pick, was 250.

Interesting.
Seeing that he’s flipping commitments around like Chittum, and after winning at WNO, stripped as much as he legally could and started running around doing cartwheels and back flips for extreme attention grabbing, I don’t think it’s a weird question. I’m asking those who know more about him if he may be a cancer type kid on a team, or not. It is interesting seeing how talented he is, and how much we need a 133, we didn’t recruit him, at least as a backup plan if Raney didn’t work out. I’m still waiting for an answer to the question.

Also, saw that ISU landed Jimmy Mastny, that’s a major pickup. He will probably be much higher in his class when he graduates. He’s great on top and in neutral, that’s a really solid lineup Mastny and Merrill.

Hoping that we can get some more good news on our front. Hope we just don’t land Amato… that would be a disappointment like the 2026 class. But again, not to be cynical, I wouldn’t be surprised if we only landed Amato, with our track history in recruiting. Really really hoping I’m wrong, but it’s best to have lower expectations lol
We were on his list, but did we go after him at all? Were we just not interested in a top 10 197 this class since we got a 197 redshirting this year? I know we really want Hutcherson next class, but if he’s already 190, he could end up a heavyweight.

Bassett dad didn't want the deal to blow up (it was a LOT of money guys). He just wanted more and couldn't handle seeing Jax have the success he did. Bo not making any teams really hurt the pride.
Jax is just more talented than Bo, that’s why he did so well this summer and stole attention away from Bassett’s, which is a big no no for them. They used us as the scape goat. If Bo made the teams this summer, I bet he and Melvin would be Hawkeyes. I think he was planning on joining the party with Jax at Okyst, but I think the guys on here who said Taylor stopped recruiting him after choosing us were right. He said it came down to Nebraska, PSU , and V tech.

I think this was very much a part of it all. The thing is in hindsight, with Stanich's performance (winning U20 Gold) they (the Bassett's) didn't need to panic but I think you're right, Jax's performance got them all spun up.

Didn't go after him isn't true. My guess is they like what they see from Harvey and decided to allocate the resources elsewhere

Man, who would have thought both him and Melvin wouldn’t end up at either PSU, Iowa, Oky st, and not by their choice. Leaving us was their choice, but that door may have slammed shut after that . I can see TnT being very stubborn if you jerk them around. Let this be a lesson to future blue chip recruits and their parents, not to let your a head get way too big. I think being such a big deal on social media really went to Bo’s and his dad’s head. I think we would have had a good shot at Melvin if he wasn’t basically being held hostage.

Excited to see Super 32 and how the recruits perform. Paul Kenny can run into Zinkin or Sidun. Shamus Regan can run into Ignacio V. Or Fred Bachmann. Jesse Grajeda and Israel Borge can run into the top kids at 144.

Going to be great, will definitely help us see how they stack up against the rest of the field.

Hopefully we haven’t let up and we are still recruiting hard! Need much more then just Amato

Amen to that! When one sees what DT already has in the class of 26 and 27 it's clear to see we need a lot more if we're going to compete long-term against PSU or the Okie's. Don't care for either program but IMO it's them against the rest of us for the foreseeable future. And I know Nebraska conquered the world last year (compared to their past performances), but I just don't see the dominoes falling the same way come this March.

You guys dodged a bullet with Bassett, father is a malcontent.

No way they last at Va Tech, Bo is good but isn't that good and several of his peers will have better college careers, imo, which will lead to another implosion.

Miller is caught in the middle of all this, he should be at one of PSU, OSU or Iowa. At some point he may decide to separate from the circus and call his own shots.

This is kind of where I'm at. I think Bassett will have a great career, performance wise, but I don't think he's the next coming of SLee. To me, he's more of a DeSanto with a bit more talent, which I'd take on my team any day of the week. All of the drama that seems to surround him/his dad is where I'm glad Brands Bros stood their ground.

Miller is the one who is in the weird spot here. Hopefully he is making his own decisions and not being influenced, although it doesn't seem that way. Kids will grow up and I hope it doesn't end badly for that trio.

Melvin has the potential to be closer to a Spencer Lee type, but your description of Bo is spot on, got to where he is at by hard work and physical high pace style. He’s like TnT when they were young, but with a very outgoing personality. That’s why saying being coached by them was going to be bad for his wrestling was so disingenuous. I thought Willie said Melvin really wanted to go to Iowa , but I could be wrong. I was looking forward to Bo’s influence on future recruits more than his actual wrestling. He said he was already in their ears saying what could be if they joined him here, which was a realistic come back to the top. It going to be a harder sell for him saying V tech will be team champions while he’s there. It would be interesting to see Amato wrestle Bo at super 32. I’m sure Bo will beat him, but it will tell us where Amato is right now. Melvin and Sidun are in a class of their own, but we need to get the best of the rest in this class and land a few big fish in 28 class to stay on the heels of the big 2, and not get passed by tOSU, V tech, Nebraska etc..

Just heard Willi and Basch’s recent show and Willi said he believed there will be more kids around Sonny’s weight in the class of 2027 that will bet at Iowa.

Hoping for Bachmann, and the better between Grajeda or Borge.

It will be interesting to see if he does have any sway of future recruits to VT. His flare for the spotlight might rub some of them the wrong way, but who knows. He's one of one at his age when it comes to social media and promoting himself.

That’s encouraging, like to see Bachman come here, good talent, and his younger brother will be a big recruit as well in the class behind him. Need to hit on this 27 class to keep up. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

When you say will be at Iowa, do you mean for a visit or on the team?

I believe Willie was talking about them on the team. So, insinuating that we will get a crop of recruits in the 2027 around the middle weights.
Listen for yourself (segment start around 53 min mark). He said he thinks that they'll get a couple of kids around the weight area of Sonny Amato (I'd interpret that as a 141 & 149 since Amato is likely 157). I think the possibilities have already been named in posts above.

Right now Dad and Bo are still calling the shots. Melvin is along for the ride. I’m sure it caused a mini riff in the family when Melvin became the one everyone truly wanted. No way Dad was letting him go some where else. For the time being Va Tech is perfect for the family as Dad and Bo will get the idol worship they desire. Bo still will be in the spotlight. Eventually he will have to wrestle Division one wrestlers and if he has some failure they will blame the coaching at Va Tech. They will be on the market again. I don’t ever see Melvin leaving Bo’s side.

So sad for Melvin, to be the better wrestler but second fiddle in that family and have to go along for the ride.
He didn’t even bad mouth us like Bo did, just said family first. Which meant he would like to go to Iowa, but he is being held hostage by dad and Bo calling the shots where he will go to school and wrestle. I know Melvin is really his cousin who was adopted by Bo’s parents. Does anyone know how that came about? I’m sure he was in a bad situation, and feels indebted to Bo’s parents for taking him in, so does what he’s told.

I will say it again Bo will never be as good as his dad thinks he is. He 19 already correct. Starting to get his man Muscles. Dominating high school is cool when you are 18 and under. Iowa was a good fit for him and his style. He’s a grinder with a motor a lot like Metcalf. No where near the wrestler metcalf was. He will be successful but top 6 with 1 ship is my prediction. 3 to 4 schools also.

That would be a heck of a career. I certainly would have taken it if he were at Iowa. And who knows where he may find himself wrestling in a few years.

He turns 20 as a true freshman. Luddington just celebrated his 20th birthday as a true freshman. Several other guys on Iowa's roster (and others) are in the same situation.

Agreed. Just because they start their careers in Blacksburg (and that's IF) doesn't mean they will end it there. Right now Bassett seems like a man without a nation. I think they picked VT for something to latch on to. Time (and $$) heals all wounds.

Good - as soon as coaches start making exceptions and bend the rules to meet the demands of one then the flood gates get opened wide. I want my coaches to have rules and expectations. Of course you can't treat everyone the same. But you can expect everyone to follow your basic standards. Generational talents can be the exception and their "perks" are not questioned as much by the team - not sure Bo is one. Miller is far more likely.

I think Bo will be a top 4 guy every year. Multiple finalist and at least 1 title. My prediction
