This is actually pretty common with ammo manufacturers. I once fired a .45 that had been improperly loaded with what they guess was twice the amount of powder than normal. I was shooting a stainless steel .45 and when it fired, it warped the entire pistol and blew both the rails out on the gun.

When I took it to where I bought the ammo, they actually told me how common it was with different ammo manufactures. They sent my gun to the manufacturer who sent me a new pistol and filed a claim against Federal, the manufacturer of the round.

On a side note, they told me that if it had been a polymer frame gun, I would have had serious damage to my hand.

Dayumm!! Now you have me worried. Because I shoot (almost exclusively) my own handloads I thought if I ever blew myself up it would be because of my own error. I didn't have any idea that commercial guys make mistakes too. If I can't trust Federal, who can I trust?

It isn't about

the recall. Remington was owned by Cerberus, a private equity firm that has been trying to roll up the gun industry into a holding company called Freedom Group. Bushmaster, the manufacturer of the weapon used in the attack in CT, was also part of this holding company. Anyway, CalSTRS was a large investor in Cerberus' fund and therefore a large indirect owner of Freedom Group. CalSTRS (potentially along with other investors) immediately began pressuring Cerberus to divest Freedom Group as soon as the shooting happened. Somewhat surprisingly, Cerberus apparently acquiesced without much of a fight and now the whole thing is for sale.

Not that surprising. Seems like this might be a great time to sell. Gun and ammo companies have been killing it. Not sure there is anywhere else for them to go but down. Even if they take a hit in sales price because of fear of gun control, they still might be selling high.

Gosh Dang man you are lucky.....I can honestly say I have never had any malfunctions like this. At least in my case and I have shot pretty much every manu and round made for a while now. Guess I have been blessed.....

And I even shoot allot of Russian 7.62x39 cheap crap and have never had a serious issue.

I know this is not the reason they are selling the company etc....Just pointed this out for my fellow dogs safety.
who have this ammo. It does seem that Remington has a few more recalls on their ammo the past few years than others....

Here are more recalls.

Safe Shooting

I heard a few weeks ago that people are having problems with the new super high velocity steel shot shells that Remington put out this year. They shoot something like 1700fps and apparently the recoil associated with that velocity is causing damage to some automatic shotguns. Remington is supposedly about to pull those shells off the shelf.

Probably already discussed here, but months ago there was dateline or 60 minutes type show segment on injury and death (I believe) allegedly resulting from defective safeties on a bunch of their firearms, including the 1100 that I own. Never had a problem with mine.

Remington has always had problems with shotgun shells, especially in automatics. They always hang up. Been that way for years and that's why I don't buy Remington shells.
