This is the rematch SWVA has wanted to see for a while now. Both teams are 11-1. Both teams are loaded with playmakers and speed.

The first game was an instant classic. Graham took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Richlands made some key defensive adjustments, and out scored the G-Men 31-3 over the final 3 quarters.

Graham has a bit more speed, but Richlands is not slow by any mean means. Richlands has the bigger line, and that made a huge difference in the first matchup.

There may literally be 10,000 fans in attendance for this one. Gonna be a crazy atmosphere for a high school contest.

As Graham broke the final huddle last night, they broke it by saying, "Richlands, come get some."

Well, here we come.

I will stand by my statement made prior to the playoffs started. Graham will beat Richland in game three and contrary to the opinions of many of my fellow Giles fans and even after seeing Appo last night, Graham will win the AA state title game in Salem. Lots of football left to be played and anything can happen, but I am keeping my pick. Graham is the real deal. Best wishes to both teams in staying healthy so either team will be ready to go when they cross over to play the east in game four.

One thing to consider here.

Can Graham handle the moment?

Richlands has been there and done that. They know what it takes to play in these big time games. Graham doesn't know yet. This is the biggest game they've payed in over a decade.

Graham has a tendency to run their mouths and get chippy when things aren't running smoothly.

Not saying that will be a thing, but if it gets chippy, will Graham hold their composure. They didn't in the first game.

In HS it's hard to predict results based on common opponents. But Giles had a chance to beat Graham and maybe would have beaten them if they hadn't lost Chapman on the first play. They had zero chance to beat Appo. Maybe Graham would match up better. A point in Graham's favor is that it's always hard to beat a good team twice in the same year. Graham certainly has more speed than Giles but they gotta beat Richlands first and then get past the next round as the only way they play Appo is in final.

Your statement also applies to Appo. They also have to win the next round to continue on and it will not be easy against a Union team that had 100 more yards of total offense than Dan River did, and that game was at Dan River. Giles played Graham at home, and it's a world of difference playing at Giles vs playing on the road at Appo or at Graham. I agree with you though, it is hard to predict results based on common opponents. I just think for many Giles fans, it's easier to say, "Appo will not be beat" or "Appo is the best team in the state" because it makes us feel better, if we at least lose to the champion. Like I wrote earlier, I think the Graham-Richlands winner wins the state title game. The lineplay of Graham has tremendously improved game by game, and Graham also had some players out against Giles. We are not the only team with injuries, but no question, Chapman was a big loss. I like our chances next year with what we return. As a matter of fact, I will predict it now, Giles is going 9-1 to 10-0 next year in regular season. I don't think we lose over 1 game, and we may not lose at all.

If anyone outside the area is coming up for the game and bringing the family after the game you can check out a neat Christmas light display. The City of Bluefield puts on the "Holiday of Lights" in the city park, which is within sight of Mitchell Stadium. It opens for the season on thanksgiving evening and it's a 1.5 mile drive through display. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.

Appo will be a semi final game, if they win

IF all the highest seeds win, the matchups are Graham at Stuarts Draft and Goochland at Appomattox. Once it gets down to final 4, they cross bracket with the highest seed remaining in the East hosting the lowest seed in West and highest seed in the West hosting the lowest seed in East

Doesn't make me feel better a bit to have lost to Glenvar in the 2nd game when they won state or lost to Appo this year or lose to anyone for that matter. But when a better team beats you, that's the way it is. When the season started I'm not sure anyone would have put Giles in the 2nd round of the playoffs and a play or two here or there and we could have been a 2 or 3 seed but if its and buts were candy and nuts. . .! Way too much time between this year and next to make any predictions. After watching Clemson in National Champ game last year I'd have said they had the upper hand to be #1 this year and they have 1 loss and should have 2 and possibly 3. I stand by my statement that Appo is the best team I've seen play in our division in a long time. That won't make them win State. Have to do that on the field and there are 7 other teams still in the mix.

I am a fan, not a player. I can make predictions about next year and even the year after at this very point in time. I can then change the prediction, take it back or add to it. That's the beauty of being a fan. I stand by my prediction for next year. Giles will be loaded. I respectfully disagree with you on Appo and Graham and Richlands. I have seen all three this year. I think the Graham-Richlands winner will win the state title. I respect your opinion about Appo, but simply disagree. I like the lineplay of Richlands which is solid and Graham has speed all over the field and has actually had some injuries. They are now healthy which makes them more dangerous. To beat Appo, a team is going to have to match them on the line of scrimmage and control the clock or simply score with them-outscore them. Richlands could create problems up front and control the clock. Graham could score right with them, from anywhere on the field, and if they get a step, Appo's secondary will not catch them. With that written, Appo is surely the team to beat with what they have done and what they return this year. Any team facing them will and should be the underdog. As for Giles, we actually played our best game of the year against Graham at home, especially defensively.

In my opinion, that was the best team Richlands has ever put on the field. I truly believe if they played that state championship game a hundred times, Richlands wins it 99 times. Unfortunately, they only play once.

It has nothing to do with Making anyone feel better. Appo it the second best 2A football team I have ever seen on the field. I have seen Graham three times this year and Richlands twice. Personal just does not add up to beat them. I'm telling u, unless weather is a factor or Appo has six people go down with injuries they won't be beat. Like I said when the rest of u play them let me know your thoughts. I'm not sure I get your statement about Graham. Giles should have beat them and was without Chapman and Pennington in that game and still should have beat them without the crap call at end of game. Appo dominated Giles and was somewhat healthy.

Id take 95 PV and 98 PV over Appo, any day.

And I am also telling you that after seeing Graham twice and Appo, I think Graham wins the state title. We simply have a difference of opinion. Our game with Graham also had Graham having 100 more yds of total O and they had two TDs called back and several holding calls that killed their drives. We also had many lifesaving one on one tackles in which our last secondary played made incredible tackles or Graham would have scored. We were fortunate. With that said, Biedelman don't normally throw the ball as accurate as he did. Like I wrote, we played out best game at home and they still won. Graham had 3 starters out against us. Time will tell what happens. That's why they play the games. You have your pick and I have mine.

I don't think the Dan River/Graham game is significant at all. Appo is the defending state champs, as well as the most tested team in 2a (rustburg, heritage and Amherst! Crazy out of conference schedule) and they handled it with ease. Id be surprised if graham beats richlands...blew a massive lead earlier this year, and got absolutely smoked by richlands last year. I would also make the argument this Appo team is better than last years Appo squad. Id never count a team out, but if I was a betting man, I'd be all in on Appo to win it all, no matter the spread, I'm confident they'd cover.
