This was a typical high school rivalry game. With the overflow Richmond fans on the visitors side, the trash talk began before the game even started. I was only one man, I wanted to join in on the trash talk but I couldn’t fight off both sides. With all the talk of championships, streaks and ‘you better enjoy this year’ I really wanted to chime in...... you don’t order rings for conference championships and all of you combined do not have half the state championships Reidsville owns. But again, my safety kept my mouth shut.
Richmond didn’t demonstrate their strength from other contests this year. The average Richmond fan should feel we should have blown them out if not for the turnovers. The average Scotland fan would say that Richmond isn’t as good as they say. We just came up empty in the red zone. But again, that is how rivalry games go. I overheard one say that this is the best rivalry in the state. That may be true.
My biggest factor in the outcome of the game would be the Scotland pick six called back for a penalty.
