Because it was slow, and undependable, it got me banned on 6Pk Spk.

I saw that headline. I really wanted to know how many of those subscribers were left.
According to the Census Bureau, there were 163,000 dial up internet users in 2023. About 0.13% of households.
It's been real fellas but AOL dial up was the only way I could post here from the outskirts of Port Gibson on Bakers Creek. I can't send half of my paycheck to Elon for his StarJinx service.

I picture anyone that still has AOL dial-up service as also being a doomsday prepper. They think it will be the only way to get online once all the cell towers and fiberoptic servers are taken out by the zombie apocalypse.
Probably some of them. As if telephone service internet & AOL would be working then anyway. I suspect most are just people who either don’t have access to high speed internet and/or very rarely connect to the internet anyway. Biggest surprise to me was AOL still existed.
