Nudged out the door and found a job at a Top 15 athletic department by revenue, with a near 50% raise, within hours. A lot of our fans will believe anything. The “nudge out” false narrative was pure spin to help the optics from our side once they knew the Auburn stuff was about to break. You literally had someone come on here to break news that JC was “retiring” after being forced out (and saying he’d already been turned down by Auburn) that happened an hour before his name started scrolling across ESPN’s ticker.
Auburn had already missed on at least three ADs. They had to get it settled so they could fire Harsin. You'll figure it all out soon.

I’m not an insider so I have no ideas of the reasons that led to him leaving, timing, being pissed, etc.

But: You (and many others) need to quit focusing on “salary per year”. They gave him a guaranteed 5-yr contract at $1.5M so $7.5M guaranteed. MS only allows 4-yr contracts so to equal the guaranteed amount, we would have had to pay him $1.9M per year - not just “match the yearly offer”. Same with Stricklin when he went to FL.

I agree…..and wasn’t really wanting to highlight the annual salary portion. Main point is that the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze to go to war over an AD salary.

Cohen did all this while we were preparing to host AU and Keenum was out of town. To be such a supposed "intense bad ***", he sure slid out the back door. Then attempted to throw shade because we told him to kick rocks.

When I was active duty Army we had a phrase that might apply here. It was "F*** Up, Move Up".

It seemed that someone would screw up a job but would get promoted or moved to a better job very quickly. Usually it involved the screw ups boss wanting to get rid of them any way possible so they benefitted by being moved or promoted.

Cohen may have lucked into this situation. I've seen it in my civilian career also.

Yeah sure….they made a 5 year / $7.5 million commitment to whatever swinging dick they could find just so they could fire a guy one or two weeks earlier.

They could have named an interim AD to lead the search if needed. As has been noted by everyone, the boosters are making the hire anyway so they just need anyone in an official capacity who can handle the logistics.

Its like folks think no one would ever leave the paradise of MSU on their own accord. Vic would still be here if he wasn’t run off by Cohen. Cohen would still be here if he wasn’t run off by the boosters and Auburn was too dumb to know. Stricklin would still be here if he didn’t want to be SEC commissioner. And on and on and on. Its just fantasy.

I mean Matt Wyatt had a tweet about it and a lot of people commented under it agreeing with him. I don't want him as our AD and I'm glad he's gone so I'm not bitching. Just wondering why Matt would be so mad about a guy's time of departure when said guy was going to be made to leave either way. Makes me believe that he doesn't think Cohen was being pushed out.

Cohen to Auburn was a done deal on Friday night. 100% done besides the paperwork. Saturday morning….MSU boards everywhere lit up with “we’re forcing Cohen out!!1!11!”. That sequence tells you all you need to know. If he was forced out, Steve and Robbie and everyone else would have no problem saying it. The only one out there pushing that was a random Auburn On3 guy with no real sources at MSU….who was lied to by the same folks lying to the ones starting those threads.

DS made an astute observation on Cohen thinking he’s so much smarter than he really is, and proving himself an idiot when he has to explain his reasoning. Pardon me if I say you’re using “John Cohen thinking” to try and craft some narrative that he was forced out by MSU, yet Auburn still hired him AND gave him a huge raise.

If you think Robby is toting water, read the latest on the free 247.. LOL.. This is an actual quote:

Rather than discuss the highs and lows of Cohen's tenure here at Mississippi State, I thought I would use this time to write about what we knew, when we knew it and what needs to happen now. I am grateful for John's contributions to Bulldog athletics as a player, coach and administrator. I consider John a friend.

I had some conversations with John last week. Much of that discussion will be held in confidence. Not everything is for public consumption, but as Ross Dellenger's article yesterday shared that there is some frustration with NIL funding.

And he literally made a post asking people to quit bashing Cohen, too.

Naive to believe Cohen was nudged out when he signed a contact extension with a raise three months ago.

As for his reasons for leaving, nothing but $ (for him and NIL just as stated in the original article).

A lot of our writers are jokes. Not worth subscribing too or reading. There are a few good ones. Robbie isn't one of them. Many of them you can't follow without getting a bunch of wrastlin crap in your feed.

We could have, but we’re not ones to get in bidding wars with the big boys in the SEC for a friggen AD (or anyone, really). The raise for Stricklin was similar and we didn’t try to match his new salary either. Us not attempting to match salary doesn’t mean anything one way or another.
Is au still an SEC “big boy“ after Texas and the Squatters become members?
Off the top of my head, texas, aTm, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, OU, UGA, and LSU are all bigger and/or better programs than AU.

Robbie is a clown of epic proportion. He’s adequate in covering girls high school basketball, but just in completely over his head trying to opine on college football. he probably won’t even be granted a press pass next year. Too many bridges burned.
