It’s time to get progressive. 1A and 4A should go to 32 teams and four rounds. Finish one week before 2A and 3A.

Allow any team that does not make the playoffs to find a fellow non qualifying team and play a “bowl game.” If they wish they can play only underclassmen. This will give these teams an extra week if practice and keep inferior teams from traveling such long distances.

Why only underclassmen? Why not let the seniors have one more game if they want.

That’s fine. I wrote “if they (coaches) wish” when explaining underclassmen only.

If a team is not good enough to be in the top 40% of the classification is it better to give the seniors a final game or to prepare for the next season with an extra week of practice and a game? That is for the coach to decide.

Albemarle gets a 526 mile round trip.I know that’s the luck of the draw but some common sense should go into the equation at some point.

They did the pod system which basically was a sectional playoff system and set up for this particular type of scenario. Actually had a team from vet near the coast with one win making a trip to an SMC power. The pod system cut down in travel but it caused issues with loaded pods and a weak ones.

I think if this was a third or fourth round game with a really good AHS headed to Murphy or Robbinsville people would be excited about the trip not dreading it.

A team with a 4-7 record is questionable qualifying fir the playoffs. When the wins are over two teams with one win each. a three and five run squad I think we realize that 32 teams (currently 48), four rounds, no byes may be the better playoff structure.

A 4-7 record in this case is a little misleading as they played two 3A and two 2A and a very good 1A school as non conference games.

True and that is what makes 1A tough when looking at record. UP definitely 3A while I would list MC as a quasi 3A.

I am still surprised how well they played West Stanly! I think “that” Albemarle team showed up that night.

North Davidson is like 5 miles from Oak Grove....so that's a WHOPPING 10 whole miles round trip,I personally think ND should maybe stay the night at holiday inn or something

Hate the long travel distances for some of these games, but the pod system was horrible and should never come back. If folks are upset with these long distances for 1st rd games then the better answer is to trim down the number of teams making the playoffs.

Albemarle has about a 220 mile round trip this week to Thomas Jefferson which is a pretty good trip but not close to last weeks.

Princeton has a 328-mile round trip to North Rowan. North Stanly has a 480-mile round trip to Edenton Holmes.

I'm expecting something like this (cutting back to 32 teams) after the next realignment, but in 1A & 5A, while the other three classes will probably still get 64....I really hope they do vote to bring some big changes
