I really hope this possible idea of RU going to a bowl game with 5 wins is really just a demented joke. I would hope the RU admin would have the decency to turn down such a pathetic and minor league bowl invite with a sub .500 record. Yeah I get the whole getting extra practices, players developement, etc. F that! Let our players and program feel what it means not
to play for something while our voiceless AD and clueless president allow RU to move methodically and efficiently to get a qualified staff for our football program.

The RU administration should be ashamed to continue having its highest profile sport lead by such an unqualified group of coaches with Flood #1 on the list.

I am really fed up with this bullsh*t participation trophy attitude our school displays. I have had season tixs for the past 16 yrs and have never missed watching a game whether in person, on tv, online or phone. I can honestly say that after seeing Flood not changing qbs last week with CL playing like crap, I just had to leave the stadium before the half. Never done that before and today I didn't even bother to watch the game.

Flood along with RU admin loser mentality need to go fast. Not even sure if I'm going to MD game next week.

2 extra practice weeks for the younger players always a good thing. I say 'why not". Why turn down another game, especially w swag and tv exposure. Maybe a cool location too, like the Bahamas.

Kind of off topic but how does B1G bowl money work, I know that we split it...but is that for only teams that become bowl eligible? Also since we dont get the full share of the TV money, does that % apply here as well? Just curious if financially somehow going to a close bowl game (less travel expenses...such as pinstripe...esp since B1G buys back tickets not sold) would be beneficial in canning Flood....

Some of our fanbase likes the bowl trips and - having stuck it out and supported the team - they deserve the option of enjoying a potentially fun holiday destination and one more game.

Everything else in your post is spot on IMO.

It's an absolute DISGRACE for ANY team winning 5 games, in a 12-game season, to be "rewarded." Add to it the fact that if - AND IT'S A HUGE "IF" - we win next Saturday we will have gotten our 4th "W" against an FBS program this season and they will have come against:

0-12 (likely) Kansas
5-7 or (likely) 6-6 Indiana
2-10 (likely) Army
2-10 Maryland
(NFSU is 4-7)

...think about THAT one fellas. We will have beaten 4 FBS teams that (likely) finished with a combined record of 9-39 this season. [sick]

BTW - If one 5-7 team gets "rewarded," with 2 extra weeks of practice, IMHO, ALL teams in the FBS should get rewarded as well, regardless of record.

If the total wins of our opponents is less than 12, we should not be allowed to attend a bowl game.

Some teams in the college playoff will win more than 11!

Doesn't the AD always lose a ton of money on bowl games as well?

No, not always, typically it's just about break-even, or a little bit of a loss, but usually not too crazy. Depends a lot on how your conference handles the unsold allotment ticket costs and how much "entertaining" the school decides to do in a given year, but I think the B1G covers, no?

I agree that 5-7 teams shouldn't go bowling. I also don't think 6-6 teams should go bowling. BUT, if they're going to extend invites to 5-7 teams, and we get one, there's no reason to turn it down.
Agreed, I don't get the angst. Sure, 5-7 or even 6-6 teams bowling is a little ridiculous, but the team doesn't make the rules and if offered more practices and another game, why wouldn't we take it?

But that is Flood's MO for the past 3 years. Beat the sisters of the poor and then the team gets its *** kicked by any team that has a pulse. Flood free in 2016.

A matchup of two 5-7 teams could make for a competitive and entertaining game. But that's getting ahead of things a bit. Let's beat Maryland first.

Doubt we get to 5-7 but if we do and a bowl invite comes up, they'll take it. Spit out your beer or not, they want the 2 extra weeks practice. Schiano used to work the young kids as if they were 1st team so they'd get some idea of next year.

The team has had 3 months worth of practice this year and there hasn't been any real improvement, so what are the players getting out of an extra 2 weeks with this staff? If anything, it cuts into Hermann and Company search for a real HC as well as recruiting.

To those that want a bowl game at 5-7 who do you see coaching our team in the Bahamas? Flood and his staff?

That's insane.

Bowls simply can't cancel so these days I would think a 5-7 team is probably obligated to take a spot.

Well some would say additional practices run by coach Flood aren't very helpful to anyone.
Yeah, but would you say that? :)

I don't see us beating MD. But if we do, and if we get into a crappy bowl, then I think we should take the extra practice time. Just being on the field working out in pads and getting extra reps is helpful. As for any bad habits Flood and his staff might instill during the extra practice time, if we hire a good new coaching staff, they can fix it all quickly. Look how fast Fridge improved things with Nova.

Fludd might manage to go to an even worse bowl than the sh*tty 3rd tier bowls we used to go to in the big east--while in the big ten, which has great bowl agreements. THAT is an accomplishment.

Speaking of teams we've beaten this year KU got pummeled, 49-0, by a so-so 5-4 WVU team (entering into the game today).

No I would not, with the easy OOC schedule, 5-7 and 6-6 teams are bad and inept teams, and watching two bad teams is not entertaining

If a 5-7 team is required, that team is selected based on APR which means we'd be towards the top of the list.
I am not so sure about that. The rule states that if a 5-7 team is needed, it will come from the top 5 teams in APR. Problem is, those teams are already bowl eligible. So do you then go further down the list? That would be logical, but it has not been codified. See linked article.

There are 80 bowl slots to be filled. As of now there are 71 eligibles, and another 15 who can still get there. So this may or may not be an issue. It will be somewhat clearer after next week, but won't be fully resolved for two weeks.

Of course if we lose to Maryland it is moot.

Interesting. So the bowls are interpreting the rule one way and the NCAA another? This is so college football.

5-7 bowl teams should be forced to play each other

It will be like the play-in game of March Madness
You're in the tournament (or a bowl), but not really!
