I will be stunned - VERY HAPPILY - if there are anywhere close to 350 on the field come Labor Day Weekend. STUNNED. This would be a HUGE jump from the #'s on the field last year (which, maybe early in the season, were a little over 200). LET'S GOOOOO!!!!

I'm depending upon you being in the upper deck at halftime against Northwestern counting their numbers:

So is the 350 number all musicians or is the auxiliary added in too?

With the larger band, could we maybe model after some other schools and let the band play some sort of third down song or tune as an "intimidation" instead of the god forsaken train horn?

I'm being completely serious here. The horns gotta go

I hate the horn, but, the horn was added to drown out the "f-penn state" chants from the student section.

Don’t need to be in the upper deck. Just have to go to the top of the 100s and take a picture of the band while they’re on the field. Just like we used to do lol! Very easy to count and come within 5 to 10 digits of the correct number.

That's what I'm saying though is with a larger band next to the student section, they could potentially start a new tune and drown out any nonsense.

For example, Georgia's band play's "Dies Iraee" every 3rd down and even through the tv screen it sounds soo badass. Meanwhile I've genuinely had to mute the game on tv and go to subtitles because of the horn...

It's just an idea.

And it’s what makes the college game day environment different.

In a good way.
If we could ever hear them over the Club Shi DJ that would be nice. I'm old fashioned and out of date, I like to hear the band play during a fall Saturday afternoon, gives it that collegiate feel. But hey, I guess we're going for D'Jais, some people must like that too.

I personally don't mind Metallica being played on 3rd down - but I could also do without the overzealous horn.

This just made me think though, and perhaps I am misremembering... Back in the day, did the marching band play "Knight Call" on 3rd down?

My first band teacher as a kid (Bill Kellerman) was the one who wrote it so it holds a special place in my heart, and it is a badass fanfare in its own right:

Thanks for adding that, @HPNJRUfan!

I enjoyed listening. Especially nice to hear one of my Glee Club favorites..."In a Quaint Old Jesey Town"šŸ‘

And yes, I remember "Knight Call" being played.

But not a fan of this version of the Alma Mater.

Is the DJ responsible for the third down sounds and train horn?

there is no DJ during the game. The DJ is only pre-game.
There is a game day person who is in charge of the music and the sounds for 1st down/TD/3rd down and so on.
Again, train horn on 3rd down was added to drown out the f-penn state chants from the students.

( 🄰 you honey)

OK I hate that person, not the DJ.

Get back to work, I want to retire soon.

Smooches.
