@FOTProgram: RT @RussMitchellCFB Lot of chatter coming out of Alabama about A.J. McCarron's knee. Heard from 3 sources now that there's a meniscus tear

Do they even need a quarterback with the way they have won this season? It's almost like a Caveman could be back there just handing it off every play to one of the many tailbacks and they would still win.

Interesting, but does it really matter? they run most of the time anyway. They just need someone to manage the game and make an occasional pass.

He practiced today... He should be fine to go for TSIO...

if it is more serious, we should scope that knee and put him on a stationary bike til December.

Understating his value this season...

His passing is excellent, and it keeps teams honest against the run.

I've been thinking the same thing...

AJ is super accurate and the few incompletions he has were intentionally thrown in the bleachers...

He doesn't make bad passes and has been under a good bit of pressure this year.

Also, most people don't realize that Bama uses the pass to set up the run a lot... He's WAAAAY more QB than we need, but it's nice to have a legit QB that can beat people with his arm....

Super accurate? I wonder. And how do you know he can beat anyone with his arm? He hasn't had to. Hope we can make him try to prove it

Blake Sims...

Out of high school, he was signed as a QB/RB/ATH... moved from RB back to QB when Phillip Sims left for UVA.

He's seen very little action... looks terrific outside the pocket and running the ball...

I'm not sure how good he'd be trying to pass with a pocket collapsing around him.

We'll need McCarron to win the BCSNC, I think.

This season?....that is Alabama football.....mediocre QB that that has a ton of talent around him....Tyler Russell would be in Heisman talks right now if he was at Bama..

68% completion is "super accurate" to me... His arm played a BIG part in BCSNCG against the 2nd best Defense in the nation, last year...

I'm not saying he's better than Bray, Murray or Wilson.... but he can definitely influence the game with his arm...

we could beat UT running the single wing...

it'll be close for a little while (UT's biggest game of the year)... Bama will pound them into submission (again)...

Not so fast there Tusk. They will not be a push over, and you will need McCarron to beat them. I agree that you will probably beat them down by the 4th, but they will score on you. our defense is not as good as last years. They are good, very good, but not great like last years

Well it's not to me. Super accurate to me is being able to put the ball in tight spots. He hasn't shown he can do that consistently.. Heck how many passes a game does he even throw. I'm not saying he is a bad QB, but he is no Tyler Russell

like in the mississippi game, the 2nd TD to Cooper.. horrible throw but the receiver made the play.. goes down as a completed pass and a TD when it should've been an INT or broken up at the very least

Oh, it wouldn't surprise me if CP got in a ST score and Bray hit a pass for another... throw in a FG, and I could see them putting up 17...

However, Alabama is going to drop a 40' disc in the middle of Neyland Stadium and plow that team under when it's all said and done...

I look for it similar to last years' game with UT scoring a bit more and I don't believe we will need McCarron to throw for ~300 yards this year like last season...

If I was Dooley, CP would touch the ball on every play. Heck, I would run him till I got tired. I might even line him up behind center for direct snaps, and no way AJ throws for 300

fair enough... I won't claim to know the "ins" and "outs" of QB play and will defer to you cats...

I do know this: he has a lot of TDs for a Bammer QB, he makes great decisions, he's been harassed more than I thought he would be this year, and he has won (a few) games with his arm.

I've thought Russell was a great QB since I saw him in the All Star Game in HS... I thought he should have started last year for you guys or at least played a bit more. I've just not seen Tyler "light up" a good defense, yet... admittedly, I don't see every MSU game.

McCarron's a pretty good QB. Bama won't have an issue against UT. UT has been pretty terrible at stopping the run this year.

we agree, AJ won't throw for ~300 again this year, although he could... but as you said "he won't have to...."

This is it exactly. Alabama seems just as "run happy" this year when looking at a stat sheet because all the games are over so quickly, they are running clock for more than a half. In fact, this offense is quite different than McElwain's have been in the past. Early in games(or in theoretical close games), they use the pass alot more than previous Alabama teams. AJ has plenty of potential to straight up beat you with his arm, as proven in the BCS championship game last year against LSU...

If you take a significant step back at qb, you become LSU and UF and would have to get lucky to get past both of them plus UT and MSU. But once you're there, what team is going to give a bigger test than UF and LSU?

they play some of their best ball every TSIO...

see 2009 and last year, too... I expect it to be relatively close, again this year.

tis the biggest day of the year for TUSK!

It's true he hasn't played against a really good defense this year. But bama won't just be able to load the box this year like they have in years past and expect to beat us. They will have to play more honest against us. We may not be able to stop your running game, but if we can, then we will see if McCarron can win with his arm. If he does, then he proves me wrong and congrats, but if not I expect you to come on here and admit he isnot as good as Tyler

absolutely,,, I'm not sure we can win the SECCG w/o him... LSU would also become an issue as well,,,,, agreed.

Meniscus may or may not be a problem depending on severity of the tear. Both of mine in right knee are torn, have been for a couple years and I've done several marathons like that. Meniscus is essentially like a rubber pad between the bones in your kneecap. Its not like an ACL/MCL problem. They can shoot him w/ some juice, give him some anti-inflamatories, tape it, or none of the above and you will never know it. I haven't done anything to mine at all. On occasion it will kind of kink up, you roll it around in a different direction to straighten the meniscus out and keep on going. They will probably wait and repair it in off season.
