Your are correct. 99% chance we are in the liberty bowl. They have selected us. Will be made official Sunday.

I saw where there is a possible match-up with Marshall??

What's the general opinion regarding them?

Winner of Rice/Marshall. Hope it's Rice.

Marshall's offense is one of the most potent in the nation.

I'm curious to know what the Vandy

Boards are saying. Assuming there is an actual Vandy message board.

Their WR's are freaks of nature. Could be fun to watch Calhoun? Without Nickoe it might not be so fun.

Why? Have you ever been to Legion Field? It is absolutely horrible. Literally the worst "college stadium" experience I've ever had.

I expected Birmingham. It's not everyday a 6 and 6 team jumps an 8 and 4 team.

You're right but wrong. BBVA can get the 8th SEC pick and chose Vandy while the Liberty is left with the 9th and get State. Long story short, we aren't "jumping" Vandy.

"The AutoZone Liberty and BBVA Compass Bowls share the eighth and ninth selections and will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office" http://www.secdigitalnetwork.com/tabid/473/article/130607/SEC-Bowl-Tie-Ins.aspx

Jesus H Christ I'm tired of typing that today.

ETA- not meant as a flame but I've typed that quote from the SEC release at least 10 times today.

That is correct but everything I have heard is that the Liberty gets first choice this year because last year they did not have an SEC school available for the slot...no clue if correct.

I hope it's Rice as well. We need this bowl win, and I don't think there are any extra "cool points" to be made by playing a better team like Marshall. We packed out the Liberty Bowl the last time we played there in 2007, so it's no surprise to me that they want our fan base in order to sell some tickets. Looking forward to the game.....A fitting reward for a noteworthy season.

I had a past LB board member tell me last night that we are going to the liberty bowl. he said they want a packed house and MSU fans will pack the house. The overwhelming majority of folks in Memphis thinks we end up at the liberty bowl, not even a question.

If its liberty I hope Memphis handles the traffic better. I, along with many others, sat in traffic for well over an hour trying to get parked. I'll have a better plan this time, and get there earlier.

There was also the panicked crowd issue trying to get to your seats. Seems like under the north endzone is where is got so bad. I had friends stuck there for 15 minutes - couldn't move. I think it stemmed from not having all the gates open or something.

The LB committee fought like hell to get State. The SEC tried to force Vandy on them but the LB folks wouldn't budge. Its a win/win for them and us.

The 50th anniversary of the 63' game with State seems to be helping us out too

True. However, could there not have been a scenario where they took Ole Miss?
It's just nice to feel appreciated. Shucks.

Chickasaw Gardens, Cooper Young, and Central Ave are terrifying! Stay away!

Been to both a ton. Both are shitholes in bad parts of town. Bham is more fun though

Orange Mound have you worried? Don't go there. Pretty simple.

We tried entering the stadium on the north end about 45 minutes before the game (we had hung out for a pep rally just before the game). It wasn't a panic so much as it was everyone being pissed off that the game was starting soon and nobody could move. People were trying to enter through tunnels that were to sections other than where their tickets were, and the ushers wouldn't let them up and they couldn't go back because of the mass of humanity trying to get into the tunnels (think of trying to switch your direction of travel during Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street). We weren't moving slowly, we were frozen in our tracks. It seemed that whoever was running things had not experienced that sort of crowd before (it was a LB record). Some "suits" from the LB came through the crowd with a police escort and got taunted. Shortly thereafter, the ushers started allowing everyone to enter, even if the ticket didn't match the section, and things got better. After the wait, we finally got to our seats halfway through the first quarter.

I hope they don't have the same type of crowd issue this year, if we go.

People seemingly cannot digest that the Liberty Bowl does NOT pick higher than the Compass Bowl. They share the 8th and 9th pick and can coordinate accordingly. OM, assuming they get the MC Bowl, would be the lower record team jumping Vandy because the MC Bowl DOES pick ahead of both the Liberty and Compass.
