Rutgers Baseball is expecting big things from Peyton Bonds, a Campbell transfer who is the nephew of Barry Bonds

We do well with big dudes
The late committing freshman Charles Batista is of similar size. But I’m not sure if he’s going to be used at pitcher first. The division III transfer they expect to start at third is also a big guy like that. I was told they all have good speed, especially Bonds. I know they like big guys, but there are Johnny Volpe types out there too. There are additional transfers that were not listed in the RU press release on the incoming and outgoing transfers– – I’ll be curious to see their bios once the roster comes out.

Speaking of Volpe, when the team slumped during the league season, he was the only one that actually picked it up a notch down the stretch. Aside from JKG, he was my favorite player during the second part of the season. I wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of guys like him come out of the transfer portal.

Yup.
If you have a good team with good pitching all you need is Bucky Dent, Bud Harrelson or Mookie Betts to play SS or center field.
Of course they will play a 5 tool player who strikes out 200 times with high bat speed and great exit velocity.
Those guy lose games for you.

Mookie Betts is a model player of what you should be looking for, we had a lot of Mookie Betts’s in my day.

I was at the athlete networking event last Friday night. Met someone from the baseball team. He told me there are 29 transfers coming for this year. Wow.

He is really a good player. More of a throwback type player.

Was he sure he did not mean 29 total frosh and transfers? I thought there was a 35-person roster limit.

He said transfers but I can’t vouch for accuracy. There are only 11 players listed on the roster right now with no freshman listed so maybe 29 is combined freshman and transfers.

I am anxious to see when they post the roster.

For excellent players in a lesser conference.

Playing in the B1G, first class travel and logistics.
Without even talking baseball, who wouldn’t want to fly all over the country, eat like kings and play baseball in an elite conference.
Yes the conference is elite, i didn’t say it was the SEC or ACC… it’s still elite and as a player you get treated that way.

Darryl Srawberry’s grandson Carter Sweeney-Strawberry committed to Rutgers baseball, I’m told.

I googled. He is a 6‘2“ outfielder from Maryland. Seems to be highly rated. He went to X and announced his commitment to the “University of Rutgers.”

If Coach Owens is willing to let Straw talk to players and have a minor role in player development.
His evolution as a person would be an amazing asset.
You couldn’t have a better influence!
And you couldn’t have a better guy to teach an old style short swing power stroke.

He came to the Ocean City Tabernacle to speak a summer or two ago and he was great. Would be a great influence on the team and a great asset to have around the program
