Rutgers fans, don’t blame Cam Spencer for taking NIL cash | Politi
Cam Spencer, the leading scorer on the Rutgers men's basketball team, made a business decision when he announced he was transferring. Expect more like it to come.
It does suck but he is not wrong. It especially sucks for this kind of fanbase.Nil sucks.
Nil sucks.
As usual, Steve "LOOK AT ME!!!" Politi is wrong. It was not about the money, Stevie.
Looking at Geo's second tweet below, "RU didn’t even get a chance to match the offer Cam was getting. Which, if true, means he didn’t really want to stay anyway." Have seen this elsewhere. If true, Cam was looking to leave for a better situation. If he finds a better situation, I wish him luck.
Stevie quotes Dickinson: "'The people hating on me would leave their job right now for a $10,000 increase.' Dickinson said on a podcast shortly after his decision became public."
I call BS on that. As @kyk1827 pointed out, if the number is $90K, in the grand scheme of life, that is not a lot of money after taxes, and we don't know how much of an increase that was versus what Rutgers was paying him. I was given very sage advice in the form of a question early in my career from one of my bosses that went something like this: "You can ALWAYS find a job that pays more money, but is that a BETTER job?"
The answer to that advice/question depends truly on if the new gig is a better gig than the current gig. Have advised lot of young professionals and my own kids this very topic, I always advise to make a list of the positives and negatives of the current gig versus the prospective gig that pays more money, and make a decision based on all of the factors and leaving money out of it. Have seen many people jump for a new job for as little as $10-20,000, only to be miserable, quit or get fired because the job was a nightmare.
I wish Cam well, except when RU plays against him. If he badly needed the extra money, fine. But hopefully, he finds on what he estimates will be the best opportunity to further his career on and off the court, and I hope he chose/chooses wisely.
Exactly, Steve, as usual is a clanging gong clamoring for attention. He's the blind squirrel that finds a nut once in a while. That article doesn’t really apply considering Rutgers was not even given a chance to match the offer, and likely would have matched it given the chance.
