3 points in the 2nd half? C'mon now. We got to be better.

This QB was a tough matchup.. but, damn, these guys got to get on the same page. And where was the DB blitz? This QB screamed out for a DB blitz.. he was too fleet-footed for out LB and DL.. he toyed with them. Its not like =covering a guy would prevent the QB from making a completion.. it was TIME we needed to shorten for him. He missed those snaps because he was busy clocking the defense.. reading it.. deciding where he'd go with the ball.

It seemed counterintuitive

He didn’t trust his QB who was 78% on the night to put the game away. Then suddenly he did.

In fairness - in this case maybe he was just playing the odds simply to not give Ohio the ball back because he didn’t trust the D. Run until you have to throw or kick to avoid ending the series. That was his plan.

The D looked a little better the final series. Hope we can build on that for next game.

He was trying to have a drive that would end the game whether we scored or not. Whatever you think of it it worked exactly the way he wanted it to and we won

One possession Greg that's why. Should have been throwing the ball all over the field on them and do something with a heartbeat to take the fight out and inferior team. Guess he didn't get the MEMO we were playing Ohio not Ohio St
31 points in 1st half and 3 in the second. That's the game story. We needed to match them TD for TD, but went to the turtle shell mode.

I think it's a new rule this year.
Mentioned the tweets in the NCAA games thread. Don’t know if it’s a new rule as much as they’re emphasizing it more this year. Last year line shifts by the DL were sometimes called and sometimes not. This year it seems like officials will be on the lookout for anything.

Rutgers

Deep WR & RB rooms

Solid QB and OL

Problematic D

Now watch the next game and see how good Mami's QB is
Not disagreeing, but that seems so weird to say about any Rutgers team in any sport...

Might not be the type of win we wanted, but a 34-31 win is better than the reverse.
The first half was an O, the D can out the second.
I'll just give the Bobcats credit and be glad Rutgers came out on top

I don’t think in these 3 early games we will see much variation with defensive calls. We have about 8 or 9 new starters with a number of transfers. It’s going to take time for any cohesion, with everyone on point. They have to try to prevent big plays. The most concerning aspect was the DL, where were the high priced transfer DE’s? Doesn’t look like they have any explosive athletes on the DL…not good. If they stay healthy on offense they should be able to score decently in the B1G, but the defense has a long way to go.

Our best defensive strategy are a Long offensive drives. That's why Greg slowed it down in the second half

Stop posting reasonable takes with facts and good football analysis. There’s no place for that around here

Bright spot - they won.

also with the offense putting up points but the defense a mess I at least am confident in GS’s ability to get the D on track.

I expected to see at least a few plays on D that would demonstrate that our DEs were an obvious upgrade. Didn't see any of those. They were invisible.

Zero sacks on D and only 4 TFL. That's not going to cut it.
This.
At the game and was not impressed with our Defense Portal additions.
The 2 DE’s were non -existent and Safety Elad was g-d awful.
‘And Safety Sanders got beat numerous times.
Hopefully we should improvement next week.

Well, the rumors from camp of the offense being ahead of the defense were spot on. Offense looked fantastic in the first half, but struggled for some reason in the 2nd half, despite moving the ball, while the defense sucked all game, basically. Difference in the game was the special teams TD.

Sure, it's a win, but not an impressive win at all. If we can't fix the D the next few weeks - and I'm not sure how much of it is schemes/coaching vs. simple lack of strength up front and speed elsewhere - this will not be a bowl season and that would suck as I thought we were going to win 6 or 7 before this game. There were an awful lot of missed defensive assignments and some poor tackling and those are correctable and this would've been a more comfortable victory without those defensive mistakes

Yes, their QB is quite good, but we're going to see some other good QBs with better lines and more running/receiving weapons and some games could get out of hand. Did love that Greg went for it on 4th many times that he wouldn't have usually, but I think he knew the offense was way better than the D tonight and we weren't going to win with the D on the field at the end. Great drive to finish it out even if we didn't score.
