Res ipsa loquitor. There is a usual group of posters who only show up in the game threads, a close game against a purportedly weaker opponent, or a loss that just pile on with constant negativity and sky is falling posts. That's all. I said it already--the defensive performance was poor. But some of the over the top nonsense and extrapolation about the team and the season was comical. Sometimes it is useful to step outside the game thread bubble and look at other results. Wisconsin struggled mightily with Miami of Ohio--oh no, we are doomed!!!! Nebraska had a hard time with Cincinnati. Minnesota struggled with Buffalo--but that is expected because PJ is Greg's little brother, right? (that's a snarky comment). All is not lost. There are 11 games to go this season, and we will lose all of them!![]()
I could care less about the final score. We could’ve scored again if that’s how Greg wanted to play it and maybe won by 2 scores. He also chose to play conservative in the second half.
My concern is that we really had no answer for Ohio’s offense. Greg knew it, and adjusted his strategy to hold onto the ball as long as possible. He didn’t care that it hampered our offensive game a bit. He didn’t want a shoot out type ending where one silly mistake loses it. So he chose to play a chess game. I’m fine with that approach given how bad the D was.
The reality is - it’s only one game, so it’s not quite time to panic, but we won’t win many more games without drastic improvement on D.
