Res ipsa loquitor. There is a usual group of posters who only show up in the game threads, a close game against a purportedly weaker opponent, or a loss that just pile on with constant negativity and sky is falling posts. That's all. I said it already--the defensive performance was poor. But some of the over the top nonsense and extrapolation about the team and the season was comical. Sometimes it is useful to step outside the game thread bubble and look at other results. Wisconsin struggled mightily with Miami of Ohio--oh no, we are doomed!!!! Nebraska had a hard time with Cincinnati. Minnesota struggled with Buffalo--but that is expected because PJ is Greg's little brother, right? (that's a snarky comment). All is not lost. There are 11 games to go this season, and we will lose all of them! ;)

I could care less about the final score. We could’ve scored again if that’s how Greg wanted to play it and maybe won by 2 scores. He also chose to play conservative in the second half.

My concern is that we really had no answer for Ohio’s offense. Greg knew it, and adjusted his strategy to hold onto the ball as long as possible. He didn’t care that it hampered our offensive game a bit. He didn’t want a shoot out type ending where one silly mistake loses it. So he chose to play a chess game. I’m fine with that approach given how bad the D was.

The reality is - it’s only one game, so it’s not quite time to panic, but we won’t win many more games without drastic improvement on D.

D could have definitely played better.

I do think there is some usual chicken littling from our fans. This was an 11-3 opponent that won their conference. If we beat Boise by 3 people would be ecstatic.

ND LOST to Northern Illinois last year and went to the playoff. These games are pretty regular with the MAC.

Miami OH was second place MAC last year and Wisconsin didn't push them over, so hopefully we are taking the game seriously and D will work on fixing the kinks with a little over a week.

Offense and ST were great. We basically scored on all but one possession aside from the clock expiring. Few thought we'd ever see that day.
Miami OH only had 117 yards of total offense yesterday… yes it was Wisconsin’s defense. However I think our D rebounds next Saturday.

Our well paid DE transfers were invisible despite them playing against MAC level competition all year last year. I thought they dominated at this level of competition? What's going on there?

Thought Weaver was ok , but O'Neil was not.

What's going on ????
RU won and that pleased the team .
So like the songs says:
"But it's all right now
I learned my lesson well
You see, you can't please everyone
So you got to please yourself"

Zero sacks on D and only 4 TFL. That's not going to cut it.
I am not buying this stat in this particular game because the QB was so elusive... he was made to scramble many times. I do wonder why the CB blitz wasn't in there given how he danced away from the DEs (some of who were obviously held.. not that they could have made teh play had they been released earlier.

How many games have you seen where a scrambling QB come away from the pocket and teh OL gets called for holding because they had no idea the QB was going outside of them?

Not in this game.

That said.. I was scratching my head at teh GTech-Colorado game officiating. Are there any rules anymore other than the defense is not allowed to clap?

This.
Saw many holds by the Ohio OL with no calls.
That BS won’t fly in the B1G.

Stop - we just sucked on D. It wasn’t the refs. TKR podcast threw out a stat that only 3 out of their 31 passes were defended by an RU defensive player. That is just horrendous.

yeah..the last drive.. but what about the rest of the 2nd half?

What about it? We only had 3 drives.

On the first drive (and our only punt of the game), AK was a perfect 3 for 3 on his passes. We committed an untimely false start penalty to push us back 5 yards, and on the run up the gut that killed Ohio in half one they were ready for us and stopped Raymond for a loss on one play. Greg stopped running that scheme after that - but between that 4 yard loss and the 5 yard false start, that and only that, is why it came to 4th and 6. We weren’t going to go for it from midfield.

On the second drive, we committed another stupid false start penalty on 3rd and 2. Then on 3rd and 7, Athan threw his only incompletion of the second half. He was 8 for 9. We needed the go ahead points so we kicked the game winning FG after bleeding nearly 8 min off the clock.

We have to clean up those penalties, no doubt, but there’s hardly anything else to point to about the offense that’s concerning from the Ohio game.

Rutgers orders the B1GMAC from Mc. Donald's
seriously >When a Big Ten team plays a non-conference opponent at home, the officiating crew is provided by the Big Ten.
Yikes we’re in trouble.
They don’t know what OL down field is ?? Ohio did that several times.

It was a very clean game in terms of penalties on both sides. A bunch of false starts, the kick off out of bounds, and maybe we had an early face mask penalty? I think that was it. On Ohio’s end it was also delay of games and false starts except for one defensive holding penalty. No PIs or offensive holding called the whole game.
