Yikes.
I agree that seems out of whack. Maybe Cal alums are wealthier in general? Could be reporting to the "database" which is from a USA today story has incomplete data?Cal has $283M compared to UCLA $233M? That doesn't seem right.
I can assure you that my fellow Cal alums are no wealthier than UCLA alums. It *might* be that some of Cal's big donors stepped up to help pay off the stadium renovation, which turned into a financial disaster because Cal fans haven't bought personal seat licenses to watch a not-good team in a stadium with, um, a shortage of bathrooms. (The stadium does have a beautiful location.) In addition, I know that alum donations have endowed a couple of Olympics sports. But I doubt that accounts for the reported differences. I think you're right in suggesting that the database isn't reliable.I agree that seems out of whack. Maybe Cal alums are wealthier in general? I can't find the cumulative numbers cited in the post, but maybe that's because it's early in the day. I do note that iin 2022 UCLA had $18 million in donations as compared to $15 million for Cal.Here are the links embedded it the X post above (formerly a Tweet!):

NCAA Finances: Revenue & Expenses by School - USA TODAY
Which are the most profitable college athletic programs in the country? See a ranked listed, including total revenue and expenses. Brought to you by USA TODAY.sports.usatoday.com
I know no one here believes me, but Maryland has had some success over the years. (Think about Lefty Driesell as basketball coach, or Randy White/Boomer Esiason as football players.) That makes it a lot easier to raise money.Major major deal for us to be so low (near last) in power 5 donations. We’re below a lot of schools who have a lot less going for them in terms of alumni size, alumni average earnings, athletic Dept exposure in major conference etc.
Maryland was at the same spot as us a few years ago and even they are putting some distance between us now and are seeing far more success across nearly all programs
Fraternity alums were historically the largest donors.
Putting the squeeze on frats have had an impact.
Maybe it's because they hire folks like this.

Rutgers can hire a professor saying white people are the very best in the entire world and universe and this fanbase would still donate squat. Who are you kidding pal.Maybe it's because they hire folks like this.

Greek life is dumb. Buying a homogenous network after already paying tens of thousands to attend a university. This is a great point. And Rutgers stance on Greek life for decades has been too extreme.
The Greeks should be a key element to the social fabric of a University.
It should be required for Greeks to have attendance at many events across campus including big turnouts for athletic events. They are the ones who would be organizing amazing fun tailgates in the blue lot. Matching shirts that have clever shots at the opponent of the week. Signs at basketball games. Etc etc.

When they take up space in the student section they can't even be bothered to wear red. Instead they show up in multiple colors of an obsolete language.
The hazing/rush/pledge week is another issue altogether. It's way too extreme and results in trauma or death in many cases.
One of the best things about Rutgers is how minimal it is.
Geez. Yeah that’s extreme.
I will say this … I’ve been very involved with RU at decently meaningful levels within the university. And I have always felt that they overemphasize and over focus on diversity. most times when putting together committees or groups just heaving diversity alone is considered an accomplishment for that group. Nevermind what they actually do or achieve . A lot of time and effort goes into make sure races , genders , sexual preferences , ages are all represented all the time. I’m not saying that’s wrong nor bad but a LOT OF ENERGY , time and focus goes into that … which leaves a lot less for doing the real work.

Yes, donations before COVID killed it.Make future donors wear masks and get vaxxed for online classes. That's how you cultivate them.

They didn't because I didn't attempt it. It's really not a big deal if I don't want to be part of "buying friends" in homogenous environments.Clearly telling us that no house asked you to pledge
Should never work again and be ostracizedMaybe it's because they hire folks like this.

Therein lies the problem…the impossible double standards camouflaged as virtue, inclusion and whatever other nonsense is cool to say these days makes lasting progress…well impossible…How long would a white professor last at Rutgers after saying that about any minority?
Stop all excuses. Try sending a check
This fanbase is all about excuses when it comes to opening up the checkbook. Now it’s I’m not going to donate because Rutgers hired an African American woman who did not deserve the job and she is speaking in way that won’t allow me to write a check LOL. More BS from the diehards that are not really diehards unless post count and time wasted here daily makes you a die hard. Spouting hate on the CE board is all most of them are good for. Hiding behind a screen name and talking to 5 other bored guys.Stop all excuses. Try sending a check

How about everyone that is participating in this discussion donates $500 tomorrow morning to NIL. Who’s in?

He rather spend money to go brownnose with failed former OL coaches who failed here miserably before doing what every other fanbase is doing to help our athletes. Can I ask why?
Can I ask why?
If you read the thread that’s the new excuse of why they do not donate. That’s why I used it.You could make a point of Rutgers grads being cheap overall with donations (which I agree with you) without getting nasty and using poor examples. Just my two cents.
