The script is we make a run and cut it to 5, then they pull away, and then we get some garbage points and lose by 9.
That didn’t happen

there have been more games like this than games that give reason for hope

I’m looking forward to individual player development but this team isn’t going to beat anybody currently sitting higher than them in the standings

Shooting right over our mini-guards

Actually - I thought our mini-est played one of his best defensive games. Outside of that one foul on a 3 point shot close out Tariq was solid on D.

The biggest train wrecks on D were the guys with length - Powers, Grant and Zrno - all killed us when they were in the game.

Raising money to get Pike players is a waste - better spent getting rid of him.
This is exactly the point

unless we go through an Indiana football type transformation in one year which LETS FACE IT we aren’t approaching athletics with the “resources” they had or a coach with an eye for talent

competing in games here and there ain’t reason to keep a guy

and pulling positives and starting threads about how fun this team is to watch… I didn’t have any fun today and haven’t had fun watching them for over a year

Don’t forget to give Dennis “concrete boots” BAD-alau some love when it comes to train wrecks on D.

it sure seems if Dylan Grant has

if he's leaving, then left him sit and give his minutes ot Nwuli

Grant still gives Pike the best chance to win, even if he’s leaving, and Pike’s going to want those wins when he looks for his next job next season.

Pike is heading for a 9-22 season. Next year will not be any better. He can't coach and cannot recruit. Why in the world would any sane person give him another year to bury the program any further?

Weird the pro pike pro keep the roster in tact voices on here disappear after games like this

it is indeed sad there’s nothing positive to say about this game but the difference between Iowa and tonight was you saw lack of talent with effort could keep a game interesting

tonight was lack of talent and lack of effort

He also came out and shot 50% or better and scored double figures against Tenn, ND, Purdue, Seton Hall in the early part of tough schedule.

Those stats are pretty deceiving. He had one good game against ND where he drained 3 threes coming out on fire from deep.

A closer look at the other games shows that vs. SHU and Purdue he combined for a grand total of 2 first half points and racked up on a collection of garbage time points with the game outcome in hand (especially Purdue). The same thing really with the Tenn game. He scored 5 in the first half but one was a 3 and the other was a long mid-range jumper.

The bottom line is he hasn’t shown an ability to do much of anything in the interior against better competition - his offense has been shooting the 3 ball and some longer 2s pretty well. Hes a major liability when he’s attempting to be a go to guy posting up in the paint.

I do agree he shouldn't really be anywhere near the paint. I recall the games he did nothing in the first half, and he was useless in those halves, but at least he bounced back a bit. On this poor team, as awful as he is defensively, he's still a top 3 most talented player (yes, more commentary on team in total) and has completely fallen off a Cliff last 6 or 7 games. Something has sent him down the drain. Not saying its Francis' elevation, just throwing out the question.

He didn’t even play that much with Francis. He started both halves - probably played together only 2ish minutes total.

I'm literally dumbfounded after watching that.

We’re going to look very bad any time a team shoots well from deep. It’s not a hole we can fix with the personnel we have on the current roster. For whatever reason, Pike doesn’t seem to want to try Dortch at the 4. That’d be the only possible adjustment that could be made to help us on D. I guess he thinks it compromises too much offense though we don’t get a lot of scoring from that position lately anyway so I’m not sure I understand. Regardless - there’s nobody else on the roster who plays good enough help D to allow us to have the guards deploy tighter perimeter coverage.

He got sick. That’s obviously been a set back. I’m not seeing much else to attribute it to other than that his post moves worked against the low majors but simply have not worked against better teams even when he’s not the opponent focal point (which he hasn’t been for a while). When his outside shots have fallen he’s put up more offense.

Buchanan and Grant started the game and combined for 2 total rebounds at the 3/4 position. That to me is way more of a glaring problem than Francis coming in at guard and not happening to grab any boards in this game. Guard rebounding tends to be more about the direction that long misses fall in.

Its tough for Buchannon, who is probably 6'5 to play the 4, which he's had to do. Boxing out doesn't allow him to disengage to attack the rebound when he's guarding bigger. Think he could outstrong guys at the lower level, not so much here.
We had 5 guys play over 20 minutes, think EO was the only one w more than 2 boards. Lino, and sometimes Davis are the only guys that are above average rebounder for their position, other than EO.
