May have something to do with the record and so many blowouts the past 7-8 years
Or not a lot of Rutgers fans and sports fans in general. NYC residents probably are either not interested in sports or huge soccer fans.

NYC residents are lazy when watching a loser. There is a train to NB but then you still need to get to the stadium. For those that drive, they hate the RAC parking. Shuttles are a big part of most schools but if we win, more people with get here.

The biggest problem with NYC and the other boroughs is that most of the people that actually live there (not work there) are not from around here. There is a ton of foreigners that live there.

Sometimes the simplest answer (as brought forth by others ITT) is the correct one.

I’ve said before there is a difference between winning, WINing and WINing.

We’ve only done the first one and barely scratched with the second. If we ever get to the second level or God-willing the 3rd, it will happen.

A little cherry picking with those stats. UT is 80 minutes from San Antonio,. 2 hours from Houston and 2 1/2 hours from Dallas.
You are the one cherrypicking. They used a round number of 50 miles, which would represent an hour or two car ride or rough tv coverage areas, and applied it to all teams. You picked one team and pointed out some markets a beyond the 50 miles. You also didn't provide what UT's numbers would be if you counted all that, my guess still far less than RU's. How about we take the positive news for RU and be happy and tout it?

Oregon is the smallest market .. not sure what they bring other Phil Knight and his brand.
As e5fdny said winning is everything.
Our weekly TV viewership for RU football is only 600k fans nationwide. That’s 220k+ below Syracuse.
We are New York’s team let’s start playing like it.

"Hour or TWO for 50 miles?" Only in the Tri-State or SoCal. Definitely not San Antonio. Adding those 3 in would boost UT by around 4 million, 1.2 million from San Antonio alone. And actually, as implied in your post, under 2 hours travel time would have been a much better metric.

Oregon brings eyeballs to TV sets. They were the most watched team in the Pac 12 last year and 12th in the country. They’ve become a national team (or uniform) to watch which is pretty impressive considering their being in a relatively small local market.

Driving time and distance have little relevance. The entire state of Ohio is Ohio State territory. Texas doubtless has fans spread across the entire state. Rutgers probably has far more fans 75 miles south of Middlesex County at the Jersey Shore than 25 miles away in Manhattan. It's a pointless metric.

Great point on Oregon.
I certainly hope we have TV weekly ratings that move us up from the least viewed team in the B1G ( and currently #58 nationally….just behind Oregon St. ..yikes).
Just Win baby !!!

Around 2007 we had a Waiting list
My buddy could not buy season tickets
A lot has changed in 16 years including the size of the size of the stadium. We added nearly 12,000 unnecessary seats since then.
And your buddy was just late to the party. Rutgers got to 27,000 and then had to start selling single games. Thus ending season tickets sales.

If you win they will come. Bottom line. We have been ****** for too long. One or two good years of 8 wins or higher in a five year span and the stadium will be filled.
And fair or not it will depend who those 8 are to see a bump.

The chart tells the truth - the numbers are real. The difference is that people in NY really only will follow a winner. A place like Nebraska has a much lower population, but the fan base is rabid and will show up even when they are terrible. We don’t have that luxury, but even a seven win season will sell out our stadium. A Sleeping Giant is the perfect name for Rutgers. Look at the RAC the last few years. People will follow a winner. We don’t need championships, just respectable football. Throw that it with games against USC and Oregon and the place will be rockin’ like you’ve never seen it before.

Which is why we got the invitation from the Big 10. RU represents almost 20% of the total population listed.
What the chart doesn't show is how many pro sports teams are in that 50 mile area. Rutgers would lead that easily and it's not something you want to compete against. 3 NFL teams, 3 MLB teams, 3 NBA teams, 4 NHL teams, and 3 MLS teams. Most of the Big 10 schools have none!

Actually I got bad advice from the ticket office

I called and told the office I wanted to add 2 couples, four people to my account

The rep said it would be best for the newbies to start their own accounts.

Build their own priorities etc

One couple did that, sent in for tickets themselves, the other couple wanted me to add their seats to my account

The addition to mine account went through, my other friend got a letter saying there was no availability

You and your buddy weren't fighting availability but you waited too late. At some point they need to open up all the remaining seats for individual games sales. At that point you're mostly out of luck except really crappy seats.

C'mon.. they are all well over an hour away. Its not cherry-picking.. it is quite a normal limit to set. If they used a larger limit than Rutgers would still have the most by far... and that would be cherry-picking.

Now, what someone mentioned in a different thread might be true.. that college sports fans in that population pool might be.. no, IS, more target-rich in southern locations and Texas. So perhaps you could read these populations and multiply by 2 while cutting Rutgers to.. I dunno.. 25% of that huge number representing college sports fans in the NYC-Philly corridor?

There’s more than enough to pack a 52k football stadium around 6 times a year
If they went to Rutgers. If Rutgers was any good. As many others have said. This area has tons of professional options and love winners.
