“Chris probably has the biggest heart of somebody I’ve ever encountered in my life,” redshirt senior left tackle Keith Lumpkin said. “He gets hit, he bounces right back up and he’s ready to go. It takes a lot of heart and a lot of guts to go through what he’s going through.”

“I know he has taken hard hits and he takes them head on and he gets right back up,” right guard Chris Muller said. “It’s nice to see, but I just never want to see our quarterback hit.”

I give this 1 post before negativity ensues. . . .

Heart is great. I don't think anyone ever questioned that. At this level, you need talent too.

Kid has taken a beating the last few weeks. It's not quite what Dodd took in 2010 (anyone remember UNC... Holy hell that kid is tough), but he has been getting abused.

Great we have the boxing equivalent of Gerry Cooney at QB. He can sure take a punch but has no chance of ever producing an offense.:boxing:

Raise your hand if you think Laviano looks like Happy Gilmore.

Except he doesn't go head on into the hits, if you watch him, he generally fades away and throws off his back foot and gets hit anyways. As opposed to actually hanging in the pocket throwing a strike and taking the hit.

You're getting hit either way, stop throwing ducks. K thanks.

There have been many post about him playing scared.
That statement shows your lack of football...sports knowledge! Playing scared does not refer to being afraid in a physical sense. It refers to being afraid to take the necessary risk by throwing to tightly covered receivers to try to win the game as oppose to playing it safe all the time. Throwing receivers open by making back shoulder throws, placing the ball between to defenders, and take shots downfield to anyone not name Caroo. Laviano has plenty of heart and toughness, what he lacks is the ability to make big time throws which is manifested in him being overly cautious, hence the term "playing scared".

Rudy had more heart than Laviano

Don't want him as my QB either

Big heart is the equivalent of winning miss congeniality at a beauty pageant

I don't see where this is news worthy. During the season the respect among all teammates is very strong. You see each other everyday. You bust your *** as a team, you bond as you are all in the same trench.
Respect and talent are two different things.

The other part is mental toughness. On that side my vote would go to Rettig as he has put up with quite a bit all season in going out to practice everyday, giving 100% and knowing despite what all of us and he see on the field Flood doesn't put him into a game until the 6 minute mark if the 4th quarter if at all. Also never saw him worrying about taking a hit as he often has stayed in the pocket and yet is not afraid to run. Totally mishandled by Flood and McDaniels all year. And please let's forget the playbook knowledge rumor because we really don't know much about this because he has, outside of the first game, not been given an opportunity to play during meaningful possessions or when Laviano has been struggling. Mental toughness is just as important.
