So, if Barker comes out and plays awesome next season, after getting all the first team snaps in practice, what will the Towles supporters say then?

Not sure if I'm considered a "Towles supporter" in your mind, but for what it's worth, I fully expect Barker to do very well next year. Better than Towles did this past season. And if I'm right, it won't be because of a big talent difference between Towles and Barker. Watched them both in high school. Very similar talents. Barker is very good. I believe that the only thing that separated Towles from Barker was the fact that Towles was the starter in 14 and Stoops wanted to go with the experience.

Most of the talent on UK's football team was very young this past season. Another year of conditioning, weight lifting and practice under their belts will help them immensely. The past year of experience will help them. If the incoming JUCO O lineman is as good as hyped, he'll be a big upgrade. Dawson's play calling experience this season will help him do better next year. I expect Stoops to improve as a head coach, with another year of experience also under his belt.

I know it drove some of you all crazy watching the Cats play this past season, but combine a young, inexperienced team with a young, inexperienced coaching staff and you get what we got this season. Wacky, inconsistent play and coaching.

I truly expect the returning players and coaches to do a better job next year. Don't expect us to win the SEC next year, but fully expect to see more consistent play, fewer stupid mistakes, and better coaching and decision making.

UK football is a very, very tough place to really earn your Head Coaching stripe. I think Stoops will do it, but it's going to take a while and he'll spend more time cleaning the latrines in the process. Unlike Joker, I think Stoops can and will do it. It's just going to take a lot of patience and a lot of Woodford Reserve for this UK football fan.

Agree 100%. Towles will be an NFL QB. No doubt in my mind.

Out of curiosity, can you name me any NFL QBs that were as bad in college as Towles has been? Like ever?

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but honest to god, I don't know what your opinion is based on. It's like you were watching an entirely different player than me the last two years. He was one of the worst decision makers we've had here, and had one of the most inaccurate arms too. I mean, even the easiest short throws became nervous adventures with Patrick because you never knew if that simple little throw might fly a few feet behind the receiver, or perhaps above his head, or perhaps a complete overthrow for an interception. Sorry, but I've just never seen any QBs who looked as erratic, confused and inaccurate as Towles make the NFL.

The whole counter-argument seems to be based only on the fact that he's big and strong with a powerful arm. Well, so what? In the NFL, a powerful arm doesn't mean squat if you don't have accuracy. And big and strong doesn't mean squat if you don't have the quick-thinking decision-making ability and intangibles between the ears.

There is one name that leaps to mind- Logan Thomas. He did have one reasonably good year (either as a freshman or sophomore, I forget which), but was terrible after that, and still got drafted on tools alone. He is struggling in the NFL; I'm not sure if he is still there.

There have been several quarterbacks who were not good college quarterbacks- or at least not as good as they should have been (inconsistent) and who were still drafted in the first round. Some recent examples are Manuel, Locker, Gabbert, Boller, Freeman. Not surprisingly, none of them have panned out. It seems that it is very, very rare to see an inconsistent college quarterback succeed in the NFL. However, it's not as if being a good college quarterback guarantees success, either. Basically, being a good college qb won't guarantee success, but being a bad one pretty much guarantees a lack of it.
