This is the reason MSU doesn't have any traditions. Every time something happens organically everyone likes, the school has to go and "maximize" it by adding hash tags and gimmicks and what not. They end up ruining it. Leaving things alone is sometimes good.

The thing I've found about traditions

Is they usually are things that just happen. The cowbells are a good example- about the cow wondering on the field during the Egg Bowl and we came back to win the game. Or the LFL- it just kind of developed over time from people backing up their pick-up trucks to the outfield fence and watching the game.

On one hand- in defense of our AD, it's good that they try things. With LT, we wouldn't have had hashtags in the end zone and things like that- ever. Or a competent coach- this past weekend non-withstanding.

But I think there is a problem and a disconnect between the AD and what the fans want. Like the DJ video. It was always interesting to me that when Greg Byrne was the AD, stuff like that would "leak out" and we as fans would yay or nay it- see Vroom Maroon. If the DJ video had leaked, I'm pretty sure it would have almost unanimously been voted down.

The Snow Bowl tribute was ridiculous. I'm not even sure if the Snow Bowl would make my personal list of top ten- or fifteen for that matter- MSU wins. We might as well honor the Hall of Fame Bowl if we are going the natural disaster route since there were tornados for that one. Scott needs to understand that we don't need to do gimmicks like that for SEC games. Something like that would have been better served for South Alabama- or actually not at all, but I think you get my point. The SEC games sell themselves. You do stuff like that for games where it's more difficult to draw a sell out.

Actually, if you are going to do a tribute game with throwback uniforms- do the 1980 MSU/Alabama game and bring back the MSJ logo. At least that was a game worth celebrating. And maybe guys like Johnie Cooks and Tyrone Keys will threaten our guys for playing like pussies.

I was at the Alabama game and I agree with whomever said that we need to do things more like them as far as advertising. Have John Holmes read the ad rather than have random ads on the scoreboard.

I disagree on the Snow Bowl thing to the point that I was OK with referring to the A&M game as a Snow Bowl reunion and having the white uniforms given it was a memorable game and I believe the only time we had played A&M in the past 40 years. BUT we just couldn't stop from going overboard, I thought the hash tagged endzone, the snow machine and continuing to show Snow Bowl highlights all through the game went too far and put emphasis on the past game and not enough on the current game. We should have only showed Snow Bowl highlights at halftime while recognizing that team and THAT'S IT. Other than that we should have just marketed the game as a Snow Bowl reunion but DURING the game should have just worn the white uniforms and other than that had our focus on THIS year's game.
