I’m pretty sure I remember Vic explaining that he wasn’t coming to MSU without his ace assistant coach Johnnie. I would whole heartedly support Johnnie as HC but wonder if Vic is talking his entire staff to TX.
Yeah....... it has absolutely nothing to do with Texas being a bigger school, in a bigger city and his kids are in Texas. Texas is his home state.

Was just thinking the only folks that might be nearly as upset about this as we are would be the Texas A&M fans. Not only do they not get Vic back home, he will now be coaching at their in state rival school. Can you imagine if an MSU alumnus was one of the elite college football coaches in the nation and he returned to Mississippi not to coach for MSU but rather Ole Miss? I know its WBB but that's still gotta sting to the Aggies.
I guess I was one of the naïve ones that thought with the great program and fan support Vic had at MSU that he would finish his career here. This just shows to me that we will NEVER keep an elite coach in any sport other than MSU baseball that doesn't have MSU roots. No coach in MSU history has been loved and supported like Vic and he still left anyway even with us matching the Texas offer.

Well I guess the silver lining in this is that we matched a offer from UT, that would be un heard of 10 years ago. Hell that was only 1 mill less of JoMo's salary. That's pretty impressive.

I like Vic. Wished he would have stayed til he got old. But, Carolina made us look silly in the SEC finals. We ran our little weave and they were playing like a men’s team, running up and down the court. I think the women’s game is about to pass him by.
This sucks because he is obviously the best coach at at team sport in the better part of 70 years, however, his refusal to play zone, stop the bleeding during a second half of a game we were completely dominating, and a gigantic woman’s inability to hit multiple point blank layups cost us at least one national championship. That’s the truth. He is on his own level, but he wasn’t capable of winning a NC with a huge advantage
I've actually wondered that too. He badly needs to hire someone to modernize his offense.
My only complaint about Vic was his offense. South Carolina would literally stand in the same spot to defend our offense and Just wait for the handoff
You do realize all the coaches we get that are successful had to leave somewhere else to come to MSU.

Vic is originally from Austin and his elderly parents still live there. Word on a couple of WBB sites is he went home to be close to them. Family means more than money to him so he didn't take our offer to match Texas. I hate to see him leave but I appreciate what he did and I wish him the best as long as they aren't playing us.
I run that same offense. But when teams decide to switch screens on me, there's a couple of things we do to counter it. One is to pin and roll which creates a numbers advantage for the offense. You end up with a 2 on 1 or a 3 on 2 most times near the paint. It's similar to what happens when you screen the zone and then pin and seal. Vic's teams never ONCE did anything to counter a team that switched screens. Granted, I'm sick to my stomach about this because to me he was more than a coach. He represented our university better than anyone I've ever seen. I know his parents are near Austin and this virus makes you think about your family more than ever, but he is a blue-collar guy going to a tea-sippin', Ole Miss on steroids school.
Since I got the COVID in mid-March, I have only visited all message board two times (with today being the second) and COMPLETELY left Twitter.
