Schiano II would be like Pete Carroll at USC

He is someone that could go head-head against Meyer, Harbaugh, and Franklin and not blink. I think he would KILL it on the recruiting trail, now that he has the B1G to sell. He built this. He understands the Rutgers Context, what NJ coaches are looking for, and what he needs to do to make us a championship contender. For the last 14 years, we've been following the Schiano plan. We don't need another plan, when we are so close. 53K stadium was part of gregs plan. B1G was part of Gregs plan. All we need is more discipline, more attention to detail, better execution, better recruiting and better personnel management.

Now he can return to take us to the next level. Keep most of the recruiting class, get Fuller, get Gary, and we're sitting pretty. Get it DONE!!!

I think i agree with Al here for the first time..... I can totally see it working out like Carroll at USC after his failure with the Jets. Schianos got NFL head coach experience and for the first time would have the B1G to sell..... its a definite upgrade from what we have now at the least

Not sure that I have ever really agreed with anything Al has said in the past, but lately he has started to make a lot of sense.

In what universe is Schiano comparable to Pete Carroll?

Here is the problem. His NFL experience the players absolutely hated him. He has the reputation of being a tyrant that players did not want to play for and hated. A quick google search would find comments saying things like playing for him was like playing in Cuba. Carroll on the other had was always known as a players coach. He might have failed in the NFL but his players loved him.

We were something like 5-2 vs uconn from 2005 onward. I wouldn't call that barely beating them. Off the top off my head during that time UConn went to a BCS bowl, beat South Carolina and ND. The were not a doormat.

RU Results v UConn
2005 W - UConn rank 82
2006 W - UConn rank 78
2007 L - UConn rank 31
2008 W - UConn rank 43
2009 W - UConn rank 30
2010 W - UConn rank 53
2011 L - UConn rank 81 - This is the one that hurts and why he has the rep against UConn.

If JH doesn't at least have a conversation with GS and a float a trial balloon with the boosters then she's not properly doing her job.

As far as GS's NFL rep as being a control freak and not being a players' coach, I wouldn't hold that up as a negative. It is hard to control an organization full of entitled 22-30 yr old newly minted millionaires with a college HC mentality. That's why it is easier to pull off being a disciplinarian in college (see Saban, see Harbaugh). And for a program that recently has had issues with controlling players, isn't a disciplinarian what you'd want? Ask yourself this question: who do you think would be a better steward of your 17 yr old son at Rutgers; Flood or Schiano? Schiano is a known and well received entity on the recruiting trail and as a program rebuilder.

Schiano would be a good bet. Question is would he want to come back?

The other question is could you get a better HC? Get this hire wrong and we become Purdue or even Kansas.

Carroll was 27-21 with New England in 3 seasons. He did a great job there.

Point being that he had some stain when he went to USC. If Carroll went to USC off of his Jets debacle he never would have had the same success.

UConn had a good program. They beat some really good teams and always had a decent squad . What exactly about uconn do you think was so bad ?

Uconn wasn't a bad team, but beating average big east teams is pretty much Schiano's ceiling as a coach.

Damn, somebody beat me to the Johnny Majors II response. And oh by the way, the man merely won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP the first time around.

How long will the process take before he makes us competitive in the B1G? Remember, we didn't go to one BCS bowl game under GS, it was always a process. Do those pushing for his return honestly believe that suddenly in a much tougher conference he is going to be able to win conference championships, when he couldn't in the BE? Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

He is someone who can go head to head...<<< Not on game day schiano is out classed by everyone but franklin
...... and not blink<<< No blink because schiano would be the deer in the head lights!
I think he would KILL on the recruiting trail<<<< did not happen before Franklin/Meyer/Harbaugh it sure as hell not going to happen with them. schiano is the dirt under the rug he will only get the dust mites.
Love you Al but you are dredging up the dead, long over rotten smelly dead, at the cost of sabotaging the present staff. Something I thought you were above. Flood is our coach until Dec 2015 at least. I suspect he will be here until Dec 2016, as cheap as our school is and will be. So put your dog to bed and wake him in 2 months to 1.5 years.

Many of his college players and their families love him, and I know many of them.

I am on the Schiano bandwagon

Ask yourself this question

Please look at his resume

Who are we going to get that is superior to Greg that
1.) Has a better coaching resume?
2.) Has major division 1 HC experience?
3.) Has major assistant coaching experience? (i.e. he knows how the big programs do it)
4.) Has NFL assistant coaching experience
5.) Has NFL head coaching experience
6.) Has NJ ties

If you put away any POSITIVE or NEGATIVE bias about Greg his first time and objectively what he did....I do not find anyone else out there that we are going to get that has LESS risk and MORE upside.

Please name these people. And we have to be able to afford them

Players hated him like the overrated QB Josh Freeman who thought he ran the locker room and Schiano benched him and got rid of him? Where is Josh Freeman today? That team was a mess when Schiano got there and they needed some discipline but they all whined like babies.

Why would we spend what it would cost to get Schiano to come back here in order to get a guy that has never shown anything to make us think he can do any better than 8-5 seasons in the Big Ten? Two years in and half the board would be calling for his head too, only then the buyout would be astronomical. Give me a break.
