On a radio show in Miami today guest Butch Davis said he would be in Miami if they called today!

DO you think he brings Greg, Mario and the gang to gather....they all

Would be kind of a strange recruiting reversal if GS is, in fact, the one who should end up being the head guy at Miami.

When he was at Rutgers he used to go into Florida for recruits. -With his Jersey ties, he'd no doubt be heading up here to clean out as many NJ prospects as he could, probably using the helicopter shtick whenever possible....only this time in one done up in "Da U's" colors.

On college game day radio on Sirius radio this morning, Greg was mentioned as a leading candidate for the job.

yeah, just what we would need. Between Franklin, Urban, Jim H., and then Greg ...we'd be 100% shut out of Jersey with Flood in charge. Right back to the 80's and 90's.

Yes but it isn't the right year to go looking for a new coach. Wisconsin also got blown out by OSU. Flood was just looking out for Barnwell's academic career. The kids who got in trouble were Schiano recruits. We just need better assistant coaches. We don't need NJ kids anyway. Recruiting rankings don't matter. We don't have the money. (Sorry, that's all the excuses I could think of within 60 seconds).

Was thinking more along the lines of him flying up here by jet, then having some kind of deal arranged where he'd have access to a local chopper. -But I'm sure he'd find a way to try to clean up in Jersey as completely as he could, (unfortunately)...lol.

ESPN listed nine candidates, none of them Greg Schiano. The list was topped by Cristobal and included Butch Davis.

Coach would be a prefect fit for that job! He is the strong hand old school guy that is fading quickly in sports.
We need the coaches to be in charge not the players.

Would love to see him get that job. Like Michigan, college football is better off with a strong Miami football team.

Would be very interesting to see him get the job there - think he would be a good fit. Always had it on the backburner he would come back here, but never thought it was a reality. Good luck Greg!

Not IMO....I just like seeing the ACC ''DOWN''....COLLEGE FB needs some more Eastern powers...like maybe us.

Have you looked at the NJ recruiting rankings this year?

Going head to head with Meyer & Harbaugh for non-Florida recruits would be a sign that Schiano is just boosting his nest egg to retire at 52.

To me it would be a little suprising if he got that job. When they hired Golden they wanted a coach to come in and be a discipline, no nonsense guy. It didn't work out and to me GS kind of fits that type. With all the pressure from the NFL alumni, etc...I would think they might look for a younger, kind of up and coming coach. Anyway, Miami has to really upgrade the whole lack of on campus facility issue to be a power again, as well as getting a very good coach. I'm not sure that is going to happen.

There is zero reason for a Miami coach to come to NJ for talent except for a rare kid like Gary.

I'm not quite sure what this even means. To win a national championship, you have to recruit nationally, which means supplementing FL talent with talent from NJ, NY, Pa, Ca, TX, and Louisiana, which are some of the states where players from Miami's last national championship team hailed from.

- Bryant McKinnie was from NJ
- DJ Williams was from Ca
- Robert Williams was from TX
- Ken Dorsey was from CA
- Ed Reed was from Louisiana

Schiano at Miami will get his share of recruits, just as when he played a prominent role in helping Miami land DJ Williams of California, beating USC, Ohio State, Michigan, and a who's who of college football schools. The campus and venue sells itself. All they need is someone to go there and kick their players in the ***. They have more talent, than they know what to do with. What they need is discipline and accountability, which Schiano could deliver.

Not simply talking about any Miami coach. We're talking about a guy who has a bunch of recruiting connections in Jersey in place from the get go and would have a darn good "in" regarding any NJ prospect he might have an interest in. -Whether he'd want to take advantage of that would be up to GS, but it's already there for him if he ever wanted to use it.

That shtick got recruits attention.

When this years' recruits were 3 years old.

Nebraska pulled some decent NJ kids too when they dominated in the early 90s. Neither team had to recruit against Meyer & Harbaugh.

I also don't believe that college football needs a strong Miami program. It wasn't good for the sport when the Hurricanes were a power - too much negative publicity generated by their thugs.

The Miami job isn't what it once was. The school has invested relatively little in its facilities, though there is a new training facility in the works. It lacks a campus stadium and seldom draws well in the pro stadium where it plays (only 45,000 for #5 Clemson last Saturday). And ACC football overall lacks much pizzazz, aside for FSU and Clemson. Should FSU defeat Clemson this season, the ACC won't even likely have a team in the playoffs (plus it loses its Orange Bowl slot to the playoff semi-finals).

Miami will get a good coach but weirdly their issue is the stadium being so far away and that the fans don't want to go. They are like UConn South

that's the thing he won't need to use it. Also, Miami already recruits here it's not as though golden didn't look at NJ players. Finally, didn't the alumni get pissed at Golden early on because he wasn't taking enough Florida kids?

Not trying to argue about the point. -Simply saying it's not a bad card to have in your deck, and GS certainly has it. Again, whether he'd ever use it, or even feel the need to use it? I have no idea.
