Great effort Alleghany. Is Boles still on the team for Wilkes Central? Just not hearing his name much in the stats for WC here lately on offense or defense. East Wilkes blowout win came without the services of its leading rusher/receiver (Devin Couch),for the entire game. Not sure why he was out. EW has quality depth in the backfield, they didn't miss a beat, it seemed.

Not sure about the Boles kid but i know Ashe is reeling right now. They have a ton of kids out with injuries including their top 2 receivers in Shuler and Price. The injury bug hit them hard last week and the week before.

I sympathize for the injury bug, but a school that big should easily be able to plug and go. It's really sad. They got dominated by EW. Mind you the qb for Ashe put it on the money. The receivers he had available to him, sorely let him down by dropping pass after beautiful pass.

I disagree. For this area it comes in cycles 2a or 1a. If East lost Couch, Ross and Reid it would demoralize them. Schools in this area don't have the luxury of replacing their better athletes like that.

Nonetheless, impressive win by East.

Not the same at all. EW has a school with 550 kids to pick from. Ashe has over 1000 kids to choose from. I agree you cant replace star players overnight, but its not because of the school's lack of enrollment numbers.

Which is why I said it comes in cycles. East has a good group of athletes and talent right now but that will end in about 3 years. It's all in cycles. Look at Starmount. Don't take this time for granted because it is an amazing group of talent collectively you guys have for the next 2-3 years.

East has always had similar athletes, year in and year out. Demographics lend itself to such. However, EW has an amazing coaching staff now. The kids buy into his philosophy and system. They have had similar teams the same caliber athelete wise as now..but past coaches didnt have the kids total focus and respect. Starmount has been a perennial power for years. They're having a down year now, but their talent hasnt came in cycles, its yearly for them. I do understand what youre saying though.

Honestly with a pool of 1000 plus kids to choose from yearly, there shouldnt be any letdowns when playing in a conference with schools half that size. Even when a couple of stars are out, there should be plenty of able bodies to keep the team afloat. I said, there should be plenty..but thats not always the case, especially if they roam the halls and dont play.
