That's good to hear BK. My wife teaches at Murphy Elementary and she doesn't know of a single new position at the school. There are about 75 kids divided into 4 1st grade classes, about the same as every other class there. But hey, if the Graham Gazette, aka BK, says they are hiring new teachers, must be so. Oh wait, maybe Gentry decided to start busing kids out of the elementary school. SMH.

Wait.....this could start a scandal! Do you think that Tricounty started an early Elementary/Middle school in order to keep Murphy 1A? Seriously guys, do elementary numbers really tell us much? Here is a little story. Several years ago Hayesville had the biggest Kindergarten class ever, had to hire an extra teacher at each grade level as they got older. Over the years attrition began to reduce the numbers and they graduated I believe 87.

Fight it all you want it will happen, just like Rville, Mtn view, and Steocah
I’m not fighting it. I just said I was happy it didn’t happen. I would hate to see it just like I hated to see Mt View & Stecoah go through it. Those were two great basketball schools and a big part of their communities. It’s coming eventually to Cherokee County and people will have to deal with it

Consolidation is coming but it won't be anytime soon. I still think it's ten years down the road or so but that's just my opinion. When it does come, there's no senario where everyone ends up happy.
Yep, it will happen one day and you are right, there will be no way to make everyone happy. What is total number of HS students Cherokee County? Probably be a solid 1aa school and a smaller 1a school?

Heard a lot of stories about Mt. View, Stecoah, and Robbinsville on the basketball court. You are right, that's the worst part about losing schools in close knit communities. No matter what happens, there will still be success in Cherokee County at athletics and that will help ease the pain.

I hope it works out for the best. I don’t think I will see it in my lifetime. I can’t help but think of Sylva Webster before they consolidated. What a power house. But it’s been a long road for Smoky Mountain and it’s good to see them turn that program around. Of course the meat of their schedule is coming up so we will see. I really think it would take years for a consolidated Cherokee County athletic team to be at the top because of moving into a different classification either 1AA or small 2A

If they stay a large 1aa school, I think the success would still be there fairly quickly. They are competing there fine now when adm's are up. The state championships would be further apart no doubt. If it ends up being 2a or 2aa then it could be something like a Sylva Webster, maybe...

I think if it goes to two schools it would be a constant argument over where kids play. Kids that have grandparents, parents and kids that have always been Bulldogs will want their kids to stay and play with their friends and the same for the Wildcat folks. Where would the dividing line be is the question. I remember well hearing the bad feelings people from Stecoah & Mt View had about consolidation in Graham County because it happened shortly after I graduated. I understood well how that effected the athletes fro each school and their proud community. But time heals and they grew together as one. I’m sure some of the Robbinsville people on here might have been there during that change and might be able to explain first hand how it was during those first few years of change

Look if you paid attention to the last months meeting of County Commissioners heard from Super of Cherokee County schools. The plan will work in three phases. If they get grant EC and oaks will be in one building in peachtree with a technical school also being housed in same building. Stage two will involve a k-8 school near that school combining MES MMS Peachtree and MCS into one facility. MHS will probably move into old Elem or Middle school while MHS is torn down and rebuilt in same location. After School Boards meetings with residents there was no support for two east west HSs. Third phase will be based on need and so forth.

Id be for that. If they do all that they need to go ahead and have a combine Ranger and Hiwassee Dam Elem/Middle in phase 3. There dont need to be more than 3 elementary and middle schools in this county.

Murphy 500
HD 200
Andrews 250
EC .....
The Oaks.....
last year it was Murphy 510, Andrews 228, Hiwassee Dam 208, Tri County 141. That's 1,087. But early college and oaks are always going to be their own thing no matter what happens with the other 3.

To this very day there are many many hard feelings, folks still very bitter and don't even speak..It's still so bad that alot of folks send and have sent their children to Swain.

So they wanted to call it Graham county instead of Robbinsville (Which would of stopped our title count.)
Graham is a small county and doent need 3 HS in this day and time. In the 60s and 70s it was a good thing.

I guess I didn’t pay attention there Scoop ! I don’t watch every single school board meeting and I don’t read the paper every week. Just talking about one of the options that were previously talked about. But thank you for setting me straight. Lol

Yeah we are glad with a school almost 200 kids above ours isn’t playing small 1a you are correct
They should form a microA division that a few of you fans could play in so that you can get rid of that Napoleon complex. You do realize there are bigger and smaller schools in every division, right? You do realize that you can't play schools exactly your size every game, right?

Can’t wait for Murphy to roll this Robbinsville team. The Big Oaks is like our home away from home.

Murphy fans say, we've had a good run of talent the last 8 years. Lol

The rest of the state knows what youve had the last 8 years.

The ONLY reason murphy has those titles is because the EC decided to play sports. Go ahead and tell us how yunz would of been small anyway. Go ahead and blow smoke up our asses. Tell us Robbinsville kids can go to the EC. I like that one. Go ahead and tell us that only 7 kids from murphy go to EC. That one is funny also. Go ahead and tell us Robbinsville reported murphy in 2009. These are things murphy fans swore to until the truth came out.

I love telling the regular murphy fan about there 8 year run and the EC. U can see the disappointment come over their face. They try to hind it or deny this truth but I can see it in the face. The pride is gone from their eye.

I present your champion the murphy bulldogs!!

I really dont see why swain vounty doesnt follow in murphy foot step. I guess some ppl want to be able to sleep at Knight.
See yunz friday.

You seem to think Cherokee County is the only county in the state with an early college whose students dont count in the enrollment of the other county schools. Did you know Polk County has an early college? Jackson County has an early college? Macon County has an early college?

Bk I'm just gonna be civil this week and just tell you goodluck Friday night . You have some serious issues man . I'm glad you only have problems with Murphy and not WRH that won a title, or the countless other schools including Swain who dropped down in 01 that have dropped to 1a under similar circumstancea. You don't say anything about Mitchell who is now 1A I guess you will have a problem with them once they beat you .

I never hear the other schools that play in the conference whine about the numbers, it’s always one school. Fact: the EC students does not play for Murphy in any sport. Fact: Murphy is getting ready to pound your Black Knights. Another thing you can count on is BK getting on his soap box about numbers. I know not all Robbinsville posters are like this but BKs act is getting old. Yes Murphy is a larger school there’s nothing we can do about it.

Talk about runs BK go ahead and tell me your record vs Murphy all time. You’ve got what 1 state title since 92? Fact is if you were beating Murphy on a regular basis we would never hear about numbers. We play where we are placed. Now set back and relax. Friday is almost here. Start racking your brain for excuses and write them down. So Friday about 10 or so, you can get on here and let all of preps know why you lost and how we have more players and blah blah blah

Bk your obsession with Cherokee County schools numbers isn't healthy. Do you go sit at the schools with a pad and pen counting kids coming in and out? I think you can be arrested for stalking playgrounds, just FYI.

Most Robbinsville folks probably really don't care about the whole deal. The ones that do are worrying about Murphy catching up with state titles. To be honest I don't think Murphy has ever knocked out a Robbinsville team good enough to win a state title. At least I have never seen one. Probably cost them a few trips to the west regional maybe. If Robbinsville is good enough to win a state title, they will beat both Murphy and Swain that season.

Anything above small 1A they are through. They might get lucky and win a title in 1AA on a very rare occasion. If they go 2A it's all over.
