That's good to hear BK. My wife teaches at Murphy Elementary and she doesn't know of a single new position at the school. There are about 75 kids divided into 4 1st grade classes, about the same as every other class there. But hey, if the Graham Gazette, aka BK, says they are hiring new teachers, must be so. Oh wait, maybe Gentry decided to start busing kids out of the elementary school. SMH.
I’m not fighting it. I just said I was happy it didn’t happen. I would hate to see it just like I hated to see Mt View & Stecoah go through it. Those were two great basketball schools and a big part of their communities. It’s coming eventually to Cherokee County and people will have to deal with itFight it all you want it will happen, just like Rville, Mtn view, and Steocah
Yep, it will happen one day and you are right, there will be no way to make everyone happy. What is total number of HS students Cherokee County? Probably be a solid 1aa school and a smaller 1a school?Consolidation is coming but it won't be anytime soon. I still think it's ten years down the road or so but that's just my opinion. When it does come, there's no senario where everyone ends up happy.
Heard a lot of stories about Mt. View, Stecoah, and Robbinsville on the basketball court. You are right, that's the worst part about losing schools in close knit communities. No matter what happens, there will still be success in Cherokee County at athletics and that will help ease the pain.I’m not fighting it. I just said I was happy it didn’t happen. I hope it works out for the best. I don’t think I will see it in my lifetime. I can’t help but think of Sylva Webster before they consolidated. What a power house. But it’s been a long road for Smoky Mountain and it’s good to see them turn that program around. Of course the meat of their schedule is coming up so we will see. I really think it would take years for a consolidated Cherokee County athletic team to be at the top because of moving into a different classification either 1AA or small 2AHeard a lot of stories about Mt. I think if it goes to two schools it would be a constant argument over where kids play. Kids that have grandparents, parents and kids that have always been Bulldogs will want their kids to stay and play with their friends and the same for the Wildcat folks. Where would the dividing line be is the question. I remember well hearing the bad feelings people from Stecoah & Mt View had about consolidation in Graham County because it happened shortly after I graduated. I understood well how that effected the athletes fro each school and their proud community. But time heals and they grew together as one. I’m sure some of the Robbinsville people on here might have been there during that change and might be able to explain first hand how it was during those first few years of changeIf they stay a large 1aa school, I think the success would still be there fairly quickly. They are competing there fine now when adm's are up. The state championships would be further apart no doubt. If it ends up being 2a or 2aa then it could be something like a Sylva Webster, maybe...
Id be for that. If they do all that they need to go ahead and have a combine Ranger and Hiwassee Dam Elem/Middle in phase 3. There dont need to be more than 3 elementary and middle schools in this county.Look if you paid attention to the last months meeting of County Commissioners heard from Super of Cherokee County schools. The plan will work in three phases. If they get grant EC and oaks will be in one building in peachtree with a technical school also being housed in same building. Stage two will involve a k-8 school near that school combining MES MMS Peachtree and MCS into one facility. MHS will probably move into old Elem or Middle school while MHS is torn down and rebuilt in same location. After School Boards meetings with residents there was no support for two east west HSs. Third phase will be based on need and so forth.
last year it was Murphy 510, Andrews 228, Hiwassee Dam 208, Tri County 141. That's 1,087. But early college and oaks are always going to be their own thing no matter what happens with the other 3.Murphy 500
HD 200
Andrews 250

I know, I was just adding the early college numbers. Wasn't trying to correct you or anything.I just rounded it man
I guess I didn’t pay attention there Scoop ! I don’t watch every single school board meeting and I don’t read the paper every week. Just talking about one of the options that were previously talked about. But thank you for setting me straight. Just be happy it wasn't last year.Bk I bet it’s rounded down atleast 2 students this year lol
Gentry won't make that mistake again, he probably keeps a running total weeklyOne mistake outta 8.
Oh dear God .... It never stops.Yeah we are glad with a school almost 200 kids above ours isn’t playing small 1a you are correct
They should form a microA division that a few of you fans could play in so that you can get rid of that Napoleon complex. You do realize there are bigger and smaller schools in every division, right? You do realize that you can't play schools exactly your size every game, right?Yeah we are glad with a school almost 200 kids above ours isn’t playing small 1a you are correct
Yall...this is so funny. Keep the conspiracies coming. The power you think he has.Gentry won't make that mistake again, he probably keeps a running total weekly
