It's not the loss. It's the way we lost. Dan is suppose to be an offensive coach yet our offense has sucked for the past 2 years

When you add in the other side of that equation - the fact that I give money to MSU and go to games in Starkville only out of principle - it sort of favors me. I don't expect idiots to understand that.

I'd much rather watch us beat UAB in Starkville than watch us lose to Oklahoma State in Houston. And the money will be much better spent for the betterment of MSU/Starkville. The preseason and postseason bowls are complete rip-offs.

The opponent wasn't too tough. We could have won the game. We played not to lose, which means you lose almost always.

The past two years? Have we ever finished in the top half of the league under Mullen? Certainly never in the top Third.

Looked like it yesterday, didn't it.

Because its totally obvious Dan isn't trying to football games***

Dumbass

Nice use of the English language. Dan was playing not to get blown out and embarrassed. He was not calling plays that gave us a chance to win the game. In order for us to win this game we knew we needed to take some risks. If you think his play calling was correct then get ready for a losing record this year and not having to make bowl plans around the holidays.

I don't want my AD apologizing for a loss, I want my Coach and players doing it. Doesn't matter who the AD schedules, It's up to the coaches and players to show up and play. And if their plan isn't working its up to the coaches to make a change. We didn't and none of that **** show on the turf saturday had anything to do with Strickland.

This is all he said:
    • Scott Stricklin@stricklinMSU<small class="time" style="font-size: 12px; color: rgb(187, 187, 187); position: relative; float: right; margin-top: 1px;">5h</small>
I believe this @HailStateFBall team is good. Tough foe in game one (that’s on me). Thank you fans for the support. See you at #DavisWade!

I understand your agenda and all, wanting us to freak out and think that our AD is terrible, but damn.

Saying he scheduled the tough opponent
This is just flat out embarrassing! No other way to put it. We're a 17ing SEC team and yet, our AD is apologizing to the fans about it being his fault he scheduled a tough opponent? Puleeeeeeeaze!

His specialty is getting us to wear his version of cutesy uniforms.

To his credit, this is only said when we lose a game. Read this or any other board before the season starts, and everyone's putting uniform combo's together and commenting on them like they matter. I wouldn't be shocked if he takes this kind of activity into consideration and thinks it's something the fans want from a PR perspective, which is something Stricklin seems to take pretty seriously.

Stricklin is a dick too. I've had several encounters with him and he all but told me to **** off. I suppose because I'm not a wealthy booster. The only time he has ever actually been nice was when a BIG money guy from Tupelo and I were sitting in Omaha this year. He's a prick and will end up biting us in the ***.

"It was our first game. We made first game mistakes. We shouldn't have scheduled a tough opponent."

Wasn't this Oklahoma State's first game?

We don't need these excuses. We don't need to work on getting better at making excuses. We need to work on getting better.

I've had similar experiences with him. Not a fan of the guy, and from the few times he would acknowledge me and my friends I got the impression he's not the most knowledgeable person of sports... which pretty much reaffirms everyone's thoughts on him that he's more worried about #'s, uniforms, and things that don't have anything to do with on-the-field results.

we might technically be in the sec, but just because we reside under that seal and they are our conference governing body does not mean we are an sec team in anything other than name alone. we dont have the history, win %, money, fan support, infrastructure, or many of the other parameters. what is embarrassing is that we dont know where we stand in the sec and think we can swing a big dick with elite teams in other conferences just because we get our teeth kicked in by sec powers every year. we are bottom-feeders and always will be unless we commit ourselves to excellence. trying to half-*** everything isnt going to cut it. do we think teams like washington state, kansas, iowa state, wake forest, duke, illiniois, indiana, etc should be playing top flight ooc schools year in and out because they belong to the pac 12, big 12, acc, or big 10? i dont....we are each and every one of those schools. we are midgets in our conference. that may sound defeatist, but its a sad, sobering truth. when other people talk about the sec, they are talking about alabama, lsu, georgia, aTm, auburn, tennessee, florida.....not vandy, ole miss, state, kentucky, or mizzouri. just because we belong to a powerful conference does not mean we can compete with elite teams. we are lucky as **** to reap the millions of dollars we get as a part of this conference. lets build up and become powers ourselves before we even let the idea cross our mind in playing anybody that we dont have a good chance to beat them.

we can become great, but we have to commit 100% in everything we do and that starts with not scheduling games where we will be massive underdogs 4 out of 5 years. we are just giving away wins and creating instability when we schedule teams that we have little to no shot at beating. had we not played a top 15 georgia tech, a top 25 houston, a top 15 ok state over mullens tenure, instead of 29-23, mullen would be 32-20 and feeling a bit more comfortable and everyone would be more confident in making it to a bowl this morning. now, we are creating threads about who we can get to replace him....and the cycle continues.

scott SHOULD apologize for being a dumbass and scheduling a team that we would be 2 score underdogs to. we surrendered a free win in a season where wins will be at a premium and we will be fighting tooth and nail for a shot at a bowl game.

Some are pretty 17ing dumb as well. Of course there are many trolls on this website. After a loss of some sort or bad news, check out their post count and usernames that haven't been seen until then. My gut tells me that many are USM folks who are disgruntled at their own pathetic situation so want to vent on an active board.

"(that's on me)" - What does that mean? To me its the same as "My Bad"

That doesn't appear to be an apology. He said it was a tough opponent...true. He said he scheduled the game...true. Wtf?

This is it:
I believe this <S>@</S>HailStateFBall team is good. Tough foe in game one (that’s on me). Thank you fans for the support. See you at <S>#</S>DavisWade!

There is no readon to mention "tough foe in week one" and "(that's on me)", unless you are in essence saying "My bad". Otherwise what does he mean by "that's on me"? What's on him?

Did you watch the game? If so, were' we out talented? What makes them 14 pts better than us after watching the game? It's not talent.

I hate this attitude from our fans that they would rather not play good teams, because there is no way we can beat them. Hwell, we could have won that game. Thank god we didnt play Alcorn first then a laundry list of panzies so we would all think we are going to be good. This exposed us no so we can actually get better for real, insted of pretending that we are getting better by beatin g crappy teams.

Why did he decide to tell us this game of all games that he makes the schedule?

Why did he say" that's on me"?

I think your the one missing the message. Obviously willfully.

i would argue that their skill players were FARRRRRR more talented than ours. our non-difference makers were probably far more talented than theirs. that has always been our problem. they reload on qb's, wr's, o-line, rb's and get what they can on defense. i did a statistical breakdown of where their 4 and 5 stars are and aside from a decent lb corp, thats where most of their skill is. when you mix it in with a 4* (autry) that isnt coached properly to keep containment it really doesnt matter if you have talent on the field because they arent coached properly (call it being prepared if you want) enough to matter. our meat and potatoes guys are where our strength is...their strength is skill positions. we dont have a wr that could catch a cold and when our offense cant score, we cant win. period. their average joes, skill position guys, and excellent coaching made our meat and potatoes and poor coaching look like we were running in the sand. as far as skill position players goes, they win in a landslide and its not even close. on top of that they have out-recruited us (only by a slight margin), but we have had too many busts, so really, the disparity in recruiting is larger than it may initially appear.

vegas doesnt lie....sure, we COULD win the game, but it doesnt mean we should schedule a team like this. its just dumb. what does risking a guaranteed win do for us when we only have a 20% chance to win. sure, we MIGHT win, but most of the time, when we step out like this, we get sent home with a loss. thats the sobering truth. i have never said we shouldnt play good teams. hell, we have roughly 20-30 teams that i would be ok with playing out of the 70 that went bowling last year. why does a "good" team always have to be a top 25, or in this case a top 15 team? you know what i hate about our fans attitude, that it HAS to be feast or famine when it comes to teams we play in ooc. there is a ****-load of mediocre teams that we could learn from, be challenged by, and still, more often than not, come away with a victory. it makes zero sense to schedule any ooc game we dont have to play where we dont have at least a pick em when it comes down to it.

we couldnt handle northwestern....what gives us the confidence we can beat osu? its simply unfounded hope and knot knowing our place in the grand scheme of things. im not encouraging a disparaging view of our program, im encouraging a realist view of what we are currently capable of more often than not. we play badass team after badass team and have been doing so for nearly a hundred years now......how has that worked out for us? we know exactly what bama is going to do to us, what atm is going to do to us, what lsu is going to do to us, yet can do nothing about it. its not some secret. we dont get one iota better playing osu when we already have to run the gauntlet. this loss isnt going to help us one bit in any other game this season....sure, we might pick up on a key here or there, but in the grand scheme of things, those teams i listed are still going to run a train on our asses because we dont have the talent to compete. talent on the field and talent between the ears is our only hope. thats the bottom line so until any of those factors change, we are better off scheduling guaranteed wins or at worst games where we have an even shot.
