I really want to know what the opinions are with respect to Stricklin and how he's going to handle this meltdown. I honestly think that he's in way over his head and is afraid to sit down with DM and call it like it needs to be called.
I sat up last night wondering how Byrne would address Mullen in his office today with a similar outcome. Big difference I felt is that Byrne would have probably been in his ear before now. Also, Byrne would be handling the issues that are transpiring with respect to Bucky and his co-hort's activities. Someone said that SS is a media guru, and I would have to agree somewhat. The question now is what kind of leader is he with respect to calling out a coach and telling him what will have to be done. Don't see it in him.
I could see the meeting going something like this "Uh, coach, uh, well, uh, what do think we ought to do?" Versus "Coach, defense is ranked "here" and offense is ranked "here". In the SEC, even worse. This is unacceptable. You were brought to run the spread offense that you had perfected at Utah and Florida. It's been 4 years. I've yet to see opposing teams defensive linemen confused over our offensive linemen with 3 yard splits. You boasted about this at your hiring press conference. I need to know by Friday morning what your plan is going forward."
On one other note, is it just me or do any of ya'll get the feeling that Mullen comes across as pompous when he's called out for bad coaching. I feel like he thinks because he's from up north that he's so much smarter than these rednecks in Mississippi. It's like "How dare you ask me why I put that little running back in short yardage situations!" or "4 interceptions is just a bad day and that will happen. Farve, Brady, and Manning have had these kind of days. Don't ask me about this again, got it!".
