I see what you did there. Not sure why anone else would hire him though. I mean who would want a coach who has never won a game against a top 20 team? **

i think Vandy may have a hard time holding onto Franklin - not sure he'd jump inside the SEC though.

I can see ARK going with Malzahn and while I can see KY doing everything in their power to get Petrino, i'm not sure it will happen

Petrino's already floated the hint though his dad that he'd take the Kentucky job in a heartbeat if they offered it. Kentucky won't even call him. He's untouchable.

There are a lot of influential boosters who are pushing Petrino hard, but Barnhart has the Gillispie hire on his resume, so I'm not sure he's willing to risk hiring a guy with character issues.

Arkansas will hire Malzahn (or at least they should).....

I personally hope they don't. That guy's a leader and knows the state of Arkansas. He'll lock that talent down. Not sure if he'll ever eclipse Petrino's success though.

Auburn will hire some yes man lollypop....or Petrino.

What do they have to lose - to get KY to be relevant in football they have to have an elite coach and they're not going to attract one unless it's one with baggage. Petrino is the best coach on the market so they'd be crazy not to take a shot.

Did Calipari not come with baggage?

He did, but of a different variety. Calipari had the two FF's that were erased but he was somehow able to keep his name out of the report - like Sherrill. Now before you jump on me for declaring him innocent, I'm not. But the NCAA did.

When Gillispie came in, he had a couple of drinking incidents on his record but convinced UK he didn't have a problem. He left a drunk.

The fact that Petrino is now labeled a womanizer is no big deal. The fact that his last three employers feel like he left as a scumbag is.

And, seriously, who would want that picture of him butchered from the neck brace up as the face of their program?

HE would win a NC with the talent he could get at those other schools.besides KY

He's already gotten a call - maybe not from Barnhart, but he's been contacted.

I suspect the trial baloon was to get the market stirring. Someone in the college game will take a shot because his play calling sequence and QB development is second to none. But I think he will have to go back to his western roots - say Idaho or somewhere like that.

Where he is toxic is the NFL. It will be a long time before his departure and the way it happened will be forgotten.

Most Kentucky fans don't concern themselves with the relevancy of their football program.

ARK - MALZ
KY - CUTCLIFF
TENN - PETRINO
AU - NO CLUE

Cutcliffe was the early favorite, but has since been scratched.

If I was handicapping the UK search, I would put is something like this:

Dykes - 3:1
Smart - 5:1
Koetter - 8:1
McIntyre - 10:1
Ryan - 10:1
Petrino - 20:1
Field - 6:1

I would probably bet the field.

They want a winner, not a loser.
