I'm 24 and have only been an MSU fan since 2006 when I enrolled. I've lived in Alabama my entire life and I understand how recruiting works over here. I have a lot of connections with both Alabama and Auburn and have always been well connected when it came to recruiting info and decisions that will go on.
However, I'm extremely puzzled by how OM is able to do what they do in recruiting in terms of official visits, as well as some of the out of state kids they get on campus or get commits from. I know everyone talks about co eds assigned to recruits and bunch of other stuff. But beyond that, how are they consistently able to get interest from high profile recruits with guys the upper echelon of the SEC are recruiting? Is most of it generated by the MS media? Is there an OM media bias in the state? Is their recruiting machine really that powerful? Are their high profile alumni really active around the country recruiting for them?
This is coming from someone who really doesn't know how the ins and outs of recruiting works in the state of MS, especially for OM. I've always known where certain people were positioned in the state of AL and which schools certain areas tend to lean, but only recently have I really payed attention to how the state of MS is aligned and how OM recruits compared to how differently we recruit. I've figured out our strategy over the years just by observing what we do and where we target, but I really don't have any clue as to how OM goes about their business.
I also have a vested interest because I will be teaching/coaching soon in the public schools somewhere in the southeast. I like knowing what's going on in what states and what to look for and as I've gotten into recruiting more and more I like knowing the background schools have when it comes to recruiting strategies.
I may take heat with this being another OM post on our board, but this is me genuinely trying to gather info on how a school like OM recruits and gets these kids on campus when they've got such a poor track record recently. I know it's a lot of questions and a lot of stuff that most of you have been familiar with since you were kids, so I thank you in advance.
