They are giving him leeway that’s for sure but this should have been his time to actual lift your team with the legs if nothing else. All QBs with his type of athleticism do it . His arm is another story.Today was a big setback....for him and the program.
I'm beginnng to wonder what the coaching staff sees in Gavin.
You should Rewatch that play. There is a D player right in front of him.Two plays in that critical drive in the second half, down 6-0. On first down he got flushed and fumbled without being hit. It looked like we has trying to get the football into a position to throw it away and lost the handle on it.
Then, the next play, he was flushed out again and with a whole field in front of him, stopped and threw it ten yards out of bounds.
What's going on here? If he gets flushed, his instinct should be to run the ball down the field and take advantage of teh gap between him and the. overage.
Instincts are a huge part of playing QB. Its why undersized guys overactive and physically gifted guys never realize their potential.
We're not seeing a lot of naturally instinctive play from Gavin and after two years out there, it should definitely be a concern. He didn't play in a dynamic offense in HS, so a learning curve was guaranteed. But you just hate to see that when you're watching for development.
It’s almost identical. Gavin needed to run alot today, go for it take control, but didn’t.
We may be at an inflection point with him.
